Izan Guevara could now see his MotoGP move ‘blocked’ for Senna Agius to join Pramac in 2027

Gavin Emmett has heard that Pramac are now being asked to consider signing Senna Agius instead of Izan Guevara to ensure an Australian is on the MotoGP grid in 2027.

Moto2 title rivals Agius and Guevara are both putting themselves in the shop window at the right moment with their early form in 2026. MotoGP teams are moving early to lock in their line-ups for 2027, and signing a Moto2 ace is potentially appealing ahead of the 850cc rules.

Agius is second in the Moto2 standings through four rounds after he won the past two races in America and Spain. Guevara is third in the standings, after reaching the podium with P2 in Thailand and P3 in Texas. Manuel Gonzalez edges Agius by 9.5 points and Guevara by 14.5.

But contrasting claims are emerging regarding the chances of Agius and Guevara moving up from the intermediate class, and for which premier class teams they could debut next term. Pramac are the natural destination in MotoGP for Guevara as he rides for their Moto2 team.

You’re in charge of Yamaha, who are you taking as the 2027 Pramac MotoGP line-up?

Pramac are being ‘asked’ to consider signing Senna Agius instead of Izan Guevara

Reports began to emerge earlier in April that claimed Guevara is destined to ride for Pramac in 2027, as Yamaha look to place a possible future star at their satellite squad. And while the idea that Agius could join Guevara at Pramac in 2027 has been raised, it now seems unlikely.

Yamaha are signing Ai Ogura for their factory 2027 line-up, which is expected to see Toprak Razgatlioglu stay at Pramac next term. So, with only one place likely up for grabs, Emmett is hearing that Pramac are being asked to consider signing Agius instead of Guevara for 2027.

Emmett said on Gas It Out: “I reckon there’s people pushing behind the scenes for it already. They know we’ve got a race in Adelaide coming up next year.

“We need an Aussie, and if Jack [Miller]’s not going to get a contract, which we don’t know whether there’s any potential there, but I had heard rumours that Guevara’s move to Pramac was perhaps not being blocked, but asking for that to be considered.

“Because that was a possibility that they were just going to slot Guevara up there. And I know people might feel for Izan Guevara career-wise, but I think in terms of deserving it, Senna’s back-to-back race wins just show that he deserves to be in the conversation.”

MotoGP is moving the Australian Grand Prix from Phillip Island to Adelaide next year, with a new street circuit due to be constructed. Pramac star Jack Miller is the only Australian rider in MotoGP currently, but the 31-year-old’s factory Yamaha contract also expires this season.

Mick Doohan says Senna Agius is going from ‘strength to strength’ in Moto2… Do you think we’ll see him on the MotoGP grid in 2027? 🇦🇺

Camden, New South Wales native Agius could fill Townsville, Queensland native Miller’s void as the only Australian in MotoGP if the latter were to lose his seat and not find a home. It is also said that Miller is nervous that Agius will be the only Australian in MotoGP next season.

Even if Guevara were to get the nod to partner Razgatlioglu at Pramac in 2027, Agius might find a place in MotoGP. It is even said that KTM could sign Agius to partner Alex Marquez in their 2027 factory line-up. Marquez is widely expected to join KTM to replace Pedro Acosta.

Alternatively, Agius could join Pramac and Guevara may still end up in MotoGP next season. Since it emerged that Yamaha have lured Ogura away from Trackhouse to replace Alex Rins next term, Guevara has been linked with Trackhouse – who do not have anyone signed yet.

Neil Hodgson thinks Senna Agius would be ‘screwed’ if he fails to get a 2027 MotoGP ride

Should the cards fall in such a way that Agius fails to find a place on the 2027 MotoGP grid, Neil Hodgson fears the 20-year-old would be “sort of screwed”. Hodgson thinks Agius now has the “maximum pressure” on his shoulders as he may otherwise have to wait until 2029.

MotoGP teams tend to offer contracts in two-year spells to avoid being out of sequence in the market when riders become available. And Agius is putting himself in the perfect place to attract interest, as Hodgson was left in awe of his performance at the Spanish Grand Prix.

“Senna was the star,” Hodgson added. “I mean, he’d won in America, but America is a quirky track. And it’s one of those whenever you come to Jerez, that is the reference track.

“Everybody knows it. Everyone tests there. Everyone’s done a bazillion laps. Everyone’s got a good set-up because it is what it is. It’s Jerez. You know every little ripple on that track.

“And watching Senna Agius on Friday in that second practice, oh my god, it’s some of the, let’s say, highest skill level I’ve seen on a Moto2 bike in a long time.

“The way he was drifting it through the fast corners consistently, but also, it was the fact that the bike was sliding, it wasn’t snapping at all.

“He’s got the most delicate throttle control to have the bike moving, turning, allowing him to finish the corners off, but with no hesitations where he wasn’t he wasn’t yo-ing. It wasn’t overworking the suspension. It was it was skill and it was so good to watch.”
