Senna Agius is Australia’s next big hope in the MotoGP paddock and could now get his premier class debut in 2027, amid reports linking him with moves to Pramac and KTM.

MotoGP teams have started to turn their attentions towards Agius, after he rose to the front group in Moto2 in recent years. Agius has been a part of the intermediate class since he first entered the world stage permanently in 2024 after penning wildcard rides in 2022 and 2023.

Now, Agius’ efforts in Moto2 may see him rise up to MotoGP as soon as the 2027 season. He has emerged as a contender for a 2027 MotoGP seat for satellite Yamaha team Pramac, and also a potential ride for the factory KTM outfit, as the premier class grid starts to take shape.

Reports in April 2026 first linked Agius with a move to Pramac for 2027, as Yamaha were also expected to promote Toprak Razgatlioglu from Pramac to their factory team. Yet reports also emerged claiming that KTM could sign Agius for 2027, amid interest from rival constructors.

Senna Agius could move up to MotoGP with Pramac or KTM in 2027

Agius has merited interest from the MotoGP paddock as the Australian has long been a very self-assured rider, who has even displayed a level of maturity well beyond his age for several years. Also, Agius committed to having a career on two wheels by moving to Europe in 2018.

Moto2 team bosses quickly saw Agius’ potential, as well, following his spate of replacement races in 2022 and 2023. Marc VDS and later Intact GP offered Agius his chance in the Moto2 world championship as he quickly became dominant in the Moto2 European Championship.

After debuting in the European Moto2 series in 2022 and achieving second in the standings, having reached the podium in nine of his 11 races, of which he won two, Agius won the 2023 European Moto2 title. He sealed the title with eight wins from nine races, plus one P3 finish.

Agius took longer to win on the Moto2 world stage, after Intact GP gave him a full-time seat from the 2024 season. The Australian scored his first Moto2 world championship win in the 2025 British Grand Prix, which preceded him also winning on home soil later on that season.

Phillip Island saw Agius win the 2025 Moto2 Australian Grand Prix, after he pulled off a bold move for the lead at Turn 1 and then pulled away from the field. The victory also gave Agius a slice of history, as he became the first Australian to ever win a Moto2 race at Phillip Island.

Senna Agius has raced in the Australian Superbike Championship and was almost a motocross star

Agius also has another connection to Phillip Island, as he made his debut in the Australian Superbike Championship in 2022 at the circuit southeast of Melbourne. He featured in the final five races of the 2022 Australian Superbike season, and he got a podium at The Bend.

Dirt track racing was where Agius’ career on two wheels started, however, after his family moved onto a farm with a motocross track while he was a kid. A motocross career almost awaited Agius, as well, before injuries helped to switch his focus onto a future on tarmac.

“From around six to 10 years old, I was a motocrosser,” Agius told Australian Motorcycle News in 2023. “We moved onto a farm with a motocross track. I was racing for KTM in the national motocross championship at the time.

“I was going to be a motocrosser, was totally in love with it and then a few things happened. [I had] a few injuries and [saw] what my brother was doing at the time. I wanted to try road racing. As soon as I did it, it was like flicking a light switch over to the bitumen.”

“Yes, I’m named after Ayrton Senna,” Agius told Fox Sports in March 2026 while previewing the first MotoGP Brazilian Grand Prix since 1992 at Goiania.

“That’s cool [to be] going there. When the Brazil race got announced, I got a load of social media following and likes from all these Ayrton Senna fan accounts.

“I’ve honestly never been anywhere close to that part of the world in my life, and the track looks super cool, a new facility for everybody. And where Ayrton Senna was from, so for me and my dad – it’s exciting.”
