Izan Guevara is being linked with a move to MotoGP with Pramac Yamaha for the 2027 season, so here is everything that you need to know about the Spanish rider in Moto2.

Guevara is a fast up-and-coming rider with a strong record for success across several junior classes since he first cut his teeth in the Spanish pre-Moto3 series back in 2018. He has also proven himself against fierce competition, including from Pedro Acosta, from an early stage.

Success has not always been immediate for Guevara, but his ability to develop has seen him rise to the front. Now, Yamaha are thought to be showing an interest in signing Guevara for the 2027 MotoGP season, either for their satellite team Pramac or even their factory outfit.

Reports first surfaced in March 2026 claiming that Guevara is destined to debut in MotoGP for Pramac in 2027, after he emerged as a Moto2 title contender. But it has even been said that Yamaha are considering offering Guevara a factory MotoGP seat for his rookie season.

Izan Guevara could move to MotoGP with Pramac or Yamaha in 2027

Yamaha could move Guevara straight from Moto2 to their works MotoGP team, as the Iwata crew see him being a possible success story like Fabio Quartararo. Yamaha feel Guevara has explosive potential after impressing in Moto2 for the factory Yamaha-affiliated Pramac team.

Guevara initially struggled in Moto2 after graduating from Moto3, on the back of sealing the lightweight class title at just 18 years old in 2022. He did not easily adapt to the Kalex Moto2 chassis, but joining Pramac Yamaha in 2025 and getting on the Boscoscuro chassis helped.

The Boscoscuro chassis was a largely inferior bike to the Kalex chassis in 2025, yet Guevara learned how to maximise its potential to register his first Moto2 podium in Indonesia. A first intermediate class win even followed in the final race of the 2025 Moto2 season in Valencia.

Winning the 2025 Moto2 Valencia Grand Prix also saw Yamaha gift Guevara his first MotoGP test. Guevara tested the Yamaha YZR-M1 in Valencia, as Pramac team principal Gino Borsoi promised him a chance to sample MotoGP machinery if he won the team’s first Moto2 race.

Izan Guevara won the 2022 Moto3 title in dominant fashion

Guevara likewise won a Grand Prix towards the end of his rookie Moto3 season at the 2021 Americas Grand Prix, which acted as a springboard for his successful title tilt in 2022. Seven wins and 12 podiums from 20 races even saw Guevara lift the 2022 Moto3 title by 62 points.

Dominance has often been the key theme when Guevara has won a title, as he even took six wins from 10 races when he lifted the European Talent Cup title as a rookie in 2019. He also won five of his 11 races when he won the 2020 FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship.

Guevara overcame a slower start compared to Xavier Artigas and Pedro Acosta to win the 2020 Moto3 Junior World Championship by seven and 19 points over his fellow Spaniards. Acosta fared better in the 2020 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and Moto3 in 2021, though.

Borsoi told MARCA in 2022: “I think he’s quite similar to Valentino Rossi, because of the way he rides the bike, his constant desire to win, and also a little bit because of the way he lives in the paddock with the team.

“He’s always laughing, always joking around. He doesn’t work as much as he should, that is the reality, but his talent makes up for everything. He doesn’t work as much as Valentino did back in the day. When I see him, I say, ‘He looks like a copy of Valentino’.”

MARCA also quoted Jorge Martinez Aspar hailing Guevara for his ability to take on board any feedback and quickly put what he learned into practice. Even in 2022 after Guevara won his Moto3 title, Aspar felt he had shown greater potential than Francesco Bagnaia at that age.

“Obviously, his incredible talent never ceases to amaze us,” Aspar said. “The naturalness and ease with which he does things, and how he adapts to every circumstance. He’s a rider who listens a lot, and who grows and progresses at an incredible rate.

“Motegi, Thailand or Australia are circuits he’d never been to before, and he’s evolving at an astonishing pace. From one day to the next, you correct things for him, and he grows in an incredible way…

“Without a doubt, he’s going to reach MotoGP, and if he continues his current trajectory, there’s no question that he’ll be a rider to watch in MotoGP very soon.

“Honestly, more than 60 World Championship riders have come through the Aspar Team, and without a doubt, Izan is a top rider, like Pecco Bagnaia or even better!”
