Marc Marquez shares where he hopes to achieve ‘match point’ in 2025 as Valentino Rossi record looms

Marc Marquez is edging closer to his seventh MotoGP title in 2025. It is possible that he could wrap it up by Misano.

The Ducati rider is displaying levels of dominance that the premier class has not seen since his Honda days. Marquez won his seventh race in a row at Balaton Park, or 14th if one includes Sprint races.

He has not won this many consecutive races since 2014, when he won 10 in a row with Honda. His stint at Ducati is proving to be just as dominant; the ‘difference’ is that Marquez now has stronger machinery with the GP25.

Marquez’s assistant says he has been ‘freaking out’ over how good his form has been at Ducati this season. Even he is finding his performances hard to believe as he leads the standings over brother Alex Marquez by a staggering 175 points.

Marc Marquez wants to achieve ‘match point’ by Japan or Indonesia as Valentino Rossi record looms

Marquez can break numerous records in 2025, including the most wins in a single season, which he set with Honda in 2014 with 13 victories. He can also match his nemesis Valentino Rossi for seven MotoGP titles.

Rossi’s entourage is worried about Marquez’s form as he edges nearer to his records. He will be keeping a watchful eye on the next few races, as it is mathematically possible that his rival could win the championship at his home race in Misano.

Marquez previously refused to answer about winning at Misano as he simply focused on keeping a strong mentality. But the 32-year-old is constantly being pushed on when he can win the championship.

Speaking with Motorsport.com, Marquez shared that he hopes to win the title by either Japan or Indonesia, rather than Misano, where Ducati may hope he wins it by.

“It’s not impossible, mathematically it isn’t,” he said. “But I hope and wish to have the first ‘match point’ in Japan or Indonesia [the two rounds which follow].

“I’m sure Ducati would like to have it in Italy, and I’m going to try to get the most out of it in Montmelo. But I wish my brother the best and I hope he has a good weekend in Catalunya.”

How can Marc Marquez win the 2025 championship by Misano?

As aforementioned, Marquez has a 175-point lead heading into the next round in Catalunya. If he is to win by the following race at Misano, he must outscore his brother by 47 points over these two rounds.

Alex Marquez has been on a poor run of form in the last three races. Retiring in Brno, he finished 10th in Austria and 14th in Hungary, allowing his brother to pull away at the front.

Gresini teammate Fermin Aldeguer thinks the last three races have not suited Alex Marquez and his ‘style’. He will be looking to turn it around at his home Grand Prix in Barcelona next weekend.

Marc Marquez hopes he does not win the title at Misano as it would mean that his brother had a disastrous weekend on home soil. Alex Marquez had already admitted defeat in the championship, but he will be hoping to put up some sort of fight in the final few races.
