The 2025 MotoGP season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting campaign’s in the premier class’ history. The year could see several records broken.

MotoGP have already broken one record with its calendar. The 2025 season will feature 22 Grand Prix – the most in the category’s history.

Ducati are the clear favourites this season after dominating the championship in 2024. The manufacturer won 19 out of 20 races with Jorge Martin winning the title with satellite team Pramac.

Factory rider Francesco Bagnaia lost out by 10 points and will be searching for his third title. But teammate Marc Marquez will be fierce competition after moving over from Gresini.

The Spaniard blitzed the field in pre-season testing in Buriram on the ‘GP24.9’ – Ducati have opted for the 2024 engine for the GP25. Davide Tardozzi claimed Marquez was not riding ‘100%’ in Thailand, which will be incredibly concerning for his rivals.

As a six-time MotoGP champion, Marquez will be gunning for another championship in 2025 – and he could break some records along the way.

Marc Marquez is chasing two Valentino Rossi records in the 2025 MotoGP season

Marquez will certainly be a contender for the championship in 2025. At 32 years old, he could become the premier class’ oldest champion.

Valentino Rossi is the only rider in the four-stroke era to win the title after turning 30. Ducati’s latest signing could break that record, but Marquez is not thinking about becoming the oldest champion.

The Spaniard could also break another one of Rossi’s records of the most fastest laps in MotoGP history. The Italian secured 76 in his career to Marquez’s 63 – he needs 14 out of 22 Grand Prix to set a new incredible feat.

While Marquez can break records in 2025, he could also lose some. The Spaniard is the youngest race winner in the premier class at 20 years and 63 days old – satellite Ducati rider Fermin Aldeguer has less than two months after his birthday (5 April) to break his fellow compatriot’s record.

The 32-year-old also has the most wins in a single season with 13 – set during his title-winning 2014 season with Honda. Marquez could break his own record with Ducati or could be dethroned by teammate Bagnaia with the speed of their bike.

Ducati are gunning for Honda’s MotoGP record set by Marc Marquez in 2014

Marquez and Honda made history in 2014 as they dominated the championship. The Spaniard won the first 10 races in a row on his way to claiming the record for most race wins in a season.

Honda also set the record for most victories from a team in a season. Marquez’s teammate Dani Pedrosa added one win in the Czech Republic to his fellow Spaniard’s 13.

Ducati also equalled that feat in 2024 – Bagnaia won 11 out of 20 races while teammate Enea Bastianini managed two.

With 22 wins up for grabs and Ducati boasting arguably the strongest rider line-up in modern MotoGP history and the best bike, that feat could be crushed in 2025.
