Marc Marquez is back to his best in MotoGP in 2025 as he cruises towards his seventh title with Ducati. He is displaying similar levels of dominance that he showed at Honda.
After winning the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend, the Spaniard is now on a run of seven consecutive victories, or 14 if including Sprint races. Marquez has not won this many Grands Prix in a row since the 2014 season with Honda, when he won the opening 10 events.
With 455 points after the first 14 events of 2025, the Ducati rider has already beaten his best season in MotoGP. He scored 420 points with Honda in 2019 before Sprint races were introduced.
Marquez was hailed the ‘GOAT’ after claiming pole at Balaton Park, marking his eighth of the season. Many people in the paddock have been left wondering if the 32-year-old is at his peak in the premier class as he looks set to win his seventh championship.

Mat Oxley says Marc Marquez has ‘more competitive machinery’ at Ducati when comparing his Honda dominance
Marquez’s level of dominance with Honda was nothing MotoGP had ever seen since Valentino Rossi in the 2000s. The Spaniard won six titles between 2013 and 2019 as no rider could get close to him.
Marquez even overshadowed Rossi’s retirement from the premier class due to his dominance. After suffering years of injuries, surgeries and setbacks after his crash at Jerez in 2020, the Spaniard is back on top with Ducati.
However, Mat Oxley does not agree with the idea that Marquez is ‘in the form of his life’. Writing in his column for Motor Sport Magazine, he notes a key ‘difference’ between his time at Honda and Ducati; he now has a stronger bike.
Oxley said: “Some people say the six-time MotoGP king is in the form of his life. I’m not so sure.
“I think he’s back to where he was before he broke his right arm, despite still suffering from the injury. The difference now is that he has more competitive machinery.
“And as if life isn’t already hard enough for the rest of the grid, Márquez isn’t even giving it 100%…”

Marc Marquez admits he has lost key Honda trait since moving to Ducati
The 32-year-old made several memories and historic moments with Honda during his 10-year stint with the team. Alberto Puig picked the 2021 German GP as Marquez’s best victory, as it was the first race he won after his near-career-ending accident at Jerez the year prior.
Unfortunately, Honda began to regress in performance not long after, and Marquez suffered major setbacks after a violent highside in Indonesia in 2022.
The Spaniard left Honda for Gresini in 2024, before stepping up to the factory Ducati team this season. Marquez admits he has lost the ‘explosiveness’ at Honda, but even without it, he holds a commanding 175-point lead over his brother Alex Marquez.
With his dominance at Ducati, a return to Honda is ‘inevitable’ for Marquez, as he is currently riding on ‘easy mode’ at the Borgo Panigale outfit. Winning another title with the Japanese giants would surely cement him as the greatest rider of all time in the premier class.
