Marc Marquez added another Sprint race win to his 2025 tally at the Austrian Grand Prix, coolly dispatching his brother Alex Marquez in the closing laps to take his 12th Saturday win of the season.
Marquez qualified in fourth for the Austrian Grand Prix, with his crash in the closing laps of qualifying hindering his last attempts to secure an eighth pole position of the season.
However, that didn’t stop the Spaniard from continuing his winning ways from before the summer break. He will be eyeing up his ninth Grand Prix victory of 2025 in Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix.
If successful, Marquez will be just five wins away from besting his 2014 MotoGP win record that carried him to that year’s title.

How Marc Marquez responded to Jorge Lorenzo’s claim that he will break one of his many MotoGP records
Marquez is on course to break a number of his own MotoGP records that have since been etched into the Grand Prix motorcycle racing history books.
Following the feat in Spielberg, MotoGP legend Jorge Lorenzo interviewed Marquez as part of DAZN’s coverage of the championship and started by congratulating the rider, saying, “Congratulations again, you’re going to break the record now, in a couple of races at this rate.”
The eight-time world champion nonchalantly responded to his former on-track rival with, “Which record?”
The response provoked a laugh from Lorenzo, who gleefully shot back, “All of them!”
After his cool response, Marquez then switched to media mode before replying, “We’ll see, the records don’t matter. The important thing is the points. The important thing is to keep adding them up to achieve the main goal. The priority is the title.”
As pointed out by the current championship leader, there are a number of records that Marquez can break between now and the end of the season.
There are still nine rounds to go following the conclusion of the Austrian Grand Prix, which is a testament to the dominance of Marquez with the factory Ducati team this year.

Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia had another MotoGP race to forget in the Austrian Grand Prix Sprint race
After beating his Ducati teammate in qualifying for the second consecutive round, Francesco Bagnaia conceded that he was no match for Marquez in the Sprint race.
The Italian predicted that Marquez would be leading at turn one, despite starting in fourth place on the grid.
He was nearly right, with the 32-year-old benefitting from Bagnaia’s poor start and a slow getaway from pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi to move up to second place behind his brother Alex Marquez at the first corner of the race.
Bagnaia was forced into an early retirement from the race with six laps remaining due to an issue with his rear Michelin tyre.
The Italian was understandably furious about having to miss out on claiming points at a track where he has been so successful in the past.
