Cecchinello started his career as a mechanic before turning to racing in 1989 and quickly reached the 125cc world championship in 1993. The Italian first turned his hand to running a team in the 1996 125cc season but he continued racing until 2003. Cecchinello’s LCR Team also expanded to the 250cc class in 2002 before racing on the MotoGP grid in the 2006 season.
