LCR Honda boss Lucio Cecchinello has admitted that he ‘wouldn’t be happy’ if he lost Diogo Moreira to the factory team in 2027.

The Brazilian rider has had an impressive start to life in MotoGP. He finished in the points in five of the opening seven races and recorded his best result to date in the Hungarian GP Sprint with P7.

Moreira looks like a real talent for the future, and Honda intend to further his development. Rumours are suggesting that a factory seat is on the cards for 2027, much to the displeasure of LCR.

Moreira has a direct contract with Honda until 2028. A factory seat was being mentioned for some time, but now, it looks like it will be a reality next season.

Originally, David Alonso was set to join Honda alongside Fabio Quartararo. However, Honda now have doubts about Alonso due to his ‘inconsistent’ results in Moto2.

Subsequently, Honda have changed their minds for 2027 and are now looking to swap Alonso and Moreira, leaving the Colombian at LCR and the Brazilian with the factory team.

It is a great opportunity for Moreira, but it is one that LCR will find difficult to accept. Team boss Cecchinello admits that he ‘wouldn’t be happy’ if Honda’s plan went through.

He told Sky Sports Italia at Balaton Park: “He has a very calm personality, he’s making progress, and we’re happy.

“We’ve been working with Honda for 20 years, and as part of our collaboration, we also have to offer services. If they decide to take Moreira for 2027, we wouldn’t be happy, but that’s part of the deal.”
