Alex Marquez is slowly getting back to form after his horror crash at the Catalan Grand Prix, and his efforts have caught brother Marc Marquez by surprise.

Injuries have ravaged the Marquez brothers this season, with Marc Marquez missing the Catalan GP after his highside at Le Mans. That weekend, Alex Marquez suffered a terrifying accident, fracturing his C7 vertebra after colliding with Pedro Acosta.

Marc Marquez admitted he would have stopped racing if he had been present that weekend. The Ducati rider returned to action at the following race at Mugello, while Alex attempted to return at Brno, but skipped the weekend and made his comeback at Assen.

Marc Marquez did not expect the work Alex Marquez put in after his Barcelona crash

The Gresini rider has been taking it easy after his heavy crash. Marc refused to let Alex take part in Q2 at Assen after crashing in practice.

Alex went on to beat Marc at the Dutch GP, much to his surprise, and at the German Grand Prix, he ran close to his brother all weekend. He lined up second behind the Ducati rider and finished there in the Sprint in a 1-2 finish for the Marquezes.

Marc Marquez dominated the German GP to collect maximum points, while his brother had been closely following him in P2 until his crash at the final corner on lap nine. Speaking after the race, the 33-year-old was not fully satisfied with Alex Marquez not on the podium.

He admitted, via MotoGP’s After The Flag, that he was taken aback by what the Gresini rider had been doing behind the scenes: “I mean, always, victory is victory, but I will rank in the top 10! So, yeah, 10 victories in one circuit in the MotoGP class is something amazing.

“Super happy. Honestly speaking, not 100% happy, because I would also like to see Alex here on the podium.

“Because I saw the way he worked after the Montmelo race, and it was amazing. I didn’t expect it from him. I know that he’s a worker, but it was more than what I expected.

“He was riding in a very good way, but OK. On our part of the garage, we worked very good and we found the best way to take the maximum this weekend.”

Marc had warned Alex about crashing at the Sachsenring, as he felt multiple riders would fall if they raced at the same pace in the Sprint in the Grand Prix. He would be proved right, as only 15 riders made it to the finish.
