Alex Marquez is one of the biggest stars of the MotoGP grid, so here is everything you need to know about the Spanish rider.
The name might sound familiar, and that’s because he is the younger brother of legendary MotoGP champion Marc Marquez.
Alex Marquez entered the competitive stage in 2010 when he joined Team Competition Monlau 125 in the CEV 125cc championship, but he did not meet the minimum age of 14 years old to enter the first event so had to wait until the second event. Marquez achieved 11th place in the riders’ standings with 24 points to his name.
In 2011 he came close to winning the title but missed out to Alex Rins. In 2012 he moved to Moto3 where Marquez won the championship and took part in various Moto3 world championship events through a wild card, including the Catalan GP.

Alex Marquez won the 2014 Moto3 title for his first world championship
In 2013, he moved to KTM machinery alongside Rins in the same team, largely going on to achieve fourth or fifth places before a breakthrough podium at the Indianapolis Grand Prix with a second place to Rins.
Marquez would go on to achieve three consecutive third-place finishes at the Silverstone, Misano and Motorland Aragon rounds, before his first career victory arrived at the Japanese Grand Prix.
The Estrella Galicia 0.0 team switching to Honda bikes for the 2014 Moto3 season would see Marquez take successive wins in Catalunya and at Assen, reducing his points deficit to title rival Jack Miller from 44 to seven points.
Another top-two finish at the British Grand Prix and another win at Motegi enabled him to take the championship lead, subsequently setting Marquez up for title success by two points in Valencia.
Marquez clinched the Moto3 title at the same time brother Marc Marquez also won his second MotoGP championship – making them the first brothers to win world motorcycle racing titles.

Alex Marquez debuted in MotoGP with Honda alongside brother Marc Marquez
The next few seasons were spent in Moto2 for Marquez where he achieved varying success, before winning the championship in 2019 and becoming the first rider with both a Moto3 and Moto2 title.
In 2020 he would make the step up to MotoGP alongside his brother Marc at the factory Honda team, replacing Jorge Lorenzo who retired at the end of 2019.
The Honda package led to a struggle for both Marquez brothers, and back-to-back podiums at the French and Aragon Grands Prix were the only highs for Alex.
After a series of poor results and only two podium finishes, Honda quickly dropped Marquez at the end of 2020 before he joined their satellite team LCR Honda. He would go on to suffer the same struggles at LCR, before switching to Ducati machinery at Gresini in 2023.
Marquez’s fortunes improved significantly at Gresini and he finished in ninth and eighth place overall in his first two seasons aboard year-old Ducati bikes, having taken three podiums collectively.
