Marc Marquez was forced to step in after he heard what his brother Alex Marquez was planning to do following his injury.
Alex, 30, was involved in a huge crash during the Catalan Grand Prix back in May, where he made contact with KTM star Pedro Acosta, who had slowed down on the straight.
The Spaniard was sent flying off his bike, with the session immediately red-flagged. Alex ended up in hospital and underwent surgery after suffering fractures in his clavicle and vertebrae.
After sitting out two races, Alex returned at the Czech Grand Prix; however, he then withdrew from the weekend on the back of qualifying.
A week later, Alex continued his return at the Dutch Grand Prix, where he finished fifth, in front of his brother Marc, who was seventh.
The Dutch Grand Prix wasn’t plain sailing as Alex suffered a crash during a practice session and was forced to miss Q2.

Alex Marquez reveals Marc Marquez made sure he would not take part in Q2 at the Dutch Grand Prix
Speaking recently to Italian news outlet Moto. It, Alex revealed that Marc stepped in to ensure he would not take part in Q2, after hearing he was adamant about competing in the session.
Alex also touched on the fact that he has been able to learn from his brother about how to deal with an injury lay-off.
When asked how important Marc is in helping his recovery, Alex said: “It was important there at Assen. It’s not just his advice, really; it’s also seeing how he dealt with so many problems over the years—like at Jerez, when he came back too soon.
“I think that served as a lesson not just for me, but for all the riders in the paddock: ‘Okay, you have to respect your body, listen to it, and come back at the right moment.’
“So, at that time, he really helped me regarding my return at Brno. He was the one who calmed me down—like at Assen, when the team kept telling me, ‘Don’t do Q2, don’t do Q2, don’t do Q2,’ but I was convinced I would.
“Then Marc stepped in and said, ‘You aren’t doing Q2.’ He didn’t even give me the option. So I said, ‘Okay, the team is right.’ That plays a very important role for me, both at the races and at home.”

Following Alex’s crash at Assen, Marc was seen riding past on his Ducati bike and was keeping a close eye on his brother’s well-being.
When asked about the moment, Alex stated that he knew Marc was passing by and attempted to make a gesture to signal that he was fine.
He also said that he knew how Marc would have felt, having seen the seven-time MotoGP world champion involved in multiple accidents.
Alex explained: “I was lying on the ground and heard a bike passing by very slowly; I knew it was him—it couldn’t have been anyone else.
“I tried to signal like this [gives a thumbs-up gesture], but he didn’t see me. Ultimately, I’ve had that same reaction many times when I’ve seen him on the ground, so I completely understand that emotional moment.”
