Marc Marquez has delivered an update on Alex Marquez’s recovery after his crash at the Catalan Grand Prix.

Last month, Alex was involved in a big crash during the Catalan Grand Prix with KTM rider Pedro Acosta.

Both riders went down, but Alex came off worse and had to undergo surgery in Barcelona before being discharged.

The Gresini star has since missed the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello and will also not take part in this weekend’s race in Hungary.

Last weekend, Marc recalled watching Alex’s crash on TV, stating he was left ‘frozen’ by the accident.

Marc Marquez provides update on Alex Marquez’s recovery

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s race at Balaton Park, Marc delivered an update on Alex’s recovery process.

Marc stated that Alex is ‘already looking better’ and is aiming to begin physical preparation.

The seven-time MotoGP world champion did admit that the first week after Alex’s crash was ‘very difficult’.

As reported by DAZN Espana, Marc said: “Alex is in the process. Recovery is like this: you come out of surgery, the first week is very difficult, the second week… and now he’s at the point where you have to keep him on a tight leash.

“He’s already looking better; he wants to start doing things, start preparing physically.

“But he has a great team of doctors and physiotherapists who are setting the timeline for him. And, of course, he wants to return as soon as possible, but with guarantees.”

With Alex missing the Hungarian Grand Prix, Gresini announced Iker Lecuona would race for the team this weekend.

Lecuona has since admitted that he is not expecting too much from himself, having left MotoGP for World Superbikes back in 2022.

As per Spanish news outlet AS, Lecuona said: “I really don’t expect anything, not even from myself. I hope to do well, obviously.

“I have the experience, I have the potential, I have the bike, and I have a team, but the reality is that it’s been three years since I’ve ridden a bike like this.

“Honestly, I have zero expectations. I want to do well and I don’t want to finish last, obviously, but I’m really here to have fun.”
