Gresini confirm Iker Lecuona will replace Alex Marquez for Hungarian Grand Prix in MotoGP return

Iker Lecuona will return to the MotoGP paddock at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with Gresini confirming that he will replace Alex Marquez.

The 2025 runner-up has been sidelined following his horrific accident at the Catalan GP. Gresini confirmed that Marquez would miss the next two races at Mugello and Balaton Park.

Ducati test rider Michele Pirro took the Spaniard’s place at the Italian GP, but for the Hungarian Grand Prix, Gresini have opted to bring in Lecuona for his MotoGP return.

Iker Lecuona to replace Alex Marquez at Hungarian Grand Prix

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the team confirmed that Lecuona would take Marquez’s place this weekend at Balaton Park, with no World Superbikes round clashing.

Joining MotoGP at the end of 2019, the Spaniard had only two years as a full-time rider with Tech3 and KTM.

He left MotoGP for World Superbikes in 2022 with Honda. The 26-year-old made sporadic appearances with the factory team and LCR in 2023, with his last race coming at the Qatar GP.

Lecuona joined Ducati’s WSBK project in 2026, joining the Aruba.it team alongside Nicolo Bulega. He is currently second in the championship behind his teammate, having finished P2 in the last 15 races.
