Aprilia are hoping to get an advantage over their MotoGP rivals this season through the use of a new rear wing that creates F1-style ‘dirty air’ on their 2026 premier class prototype.
After a very promising ending to last year’s term, Aprilia have set their sights on finally reaching the pinnacle of MotoGP by dethroning Ducati once and for all.
Marco Bezzecchi took the fight to Marc Marquez at several race weekends last year, after it became apparent that Aprilia had figured out how to perform well at stop-and-go circuits such as Balaton Park and Misano.
Max Biaggi recently declared that Aprilia’s 2026 challenger has no weaknesses, in a stark warning to Marquez and co about the Noale-based constructor’s competitiveness in the upcoming campaign.
To help further bolster their championship challenge in the new season, engineers in Scorze have also made some interesting developments at the rear of the bike.

Aprilia’s ‘main objective’ with new rear wing is to hinder rivals behind them with ‘dirty air’
According to a report by Motorpasion Moto, Aprilia’s latest weapon in development comes in the form of a new rear wing, which is believed to have a ‘main objective’ of pumping out even more dirty air to hinder the bikes behind them.
Bezzecchi hinted at ‘super aggressive’ changes to the RS-GP26 during Aprilia’s launch event, and the new winglets that were present at Sepang for the first pre-season test of 2026 were exactly that.
Aprilia reportedly brought two different specs of rear wings to Malaysia and tested them through the use of slipstreaming.
In addition to the performance advantage that it will give the new prototype, it is understood that the upgrade has also been designed to ‘harm’ those behind in the form of turbulence.
Dirty air has become infamous in F1 over the years. As the aerodynamic elements on the cars become more and more complex, it leaves an even more disruptive wake behind, which has seen the closeness of racing in the category diminish.
Nevertheless, since aerodynamics became a main component in MotoGP, it has been present. However, never in the form of purposely compounding the amount of dirty air to disrupt trailing riders.

Marc Marquez has been warned about Marco Bezzecchi being his biggest threat to the 2026 MotoGP title
Marquez is looking to defend his first MotoGP title since the 2020 season, which ended in complete disaster for the Spaniard.
The seven-time world champion is expected to dominate the proceedings again following a formidable season last year, but Bezzecchi has been identified as the biggest threat to Marquez’s crown by MotoGP fans.
It’s not just the fans who think the Ant of Cervera should be worried, though. Many figures within the premier class paddock have also outlined the Aprilia flag-bearer to be the biggest thorn in Marquez’s side.
Pedro Acosta also believes that Bezzecchi will take the fight to Ducati and their star-studded line-up.
The Murcian, who is understood to have already signed an agreement with Borgo Panigale for 2027, also believes Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez could throw some spanners in the works of Marquez’s title defence.
