Marc Marquez was virtually untouchable throughout the 2025 MotoGP season and rarely came across anyone who wasn’t his brother.

In a way, it could’ve been expected, but the combination of Marquez and a factory Ducati was more than enough to ease to the title with multiple races to spare.

Looking to the future, he could explore the MotoGP rider market in the coming months, in a bid to receive a better payday.

Perhaps there could be the opportunity for a fairytale reunion with Honda ahead of the new regulations for 2027. They will be a prime destination.

Marquez has cancelled his ‘holidays’ in a bid to boost his recovery from a shoulder injury sustained at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

It would be wise if Marquez signed a one-year Ducati deal for 2027, as it would allow him to assess his options after the new regulations have begun. It would guarantee a move to the best bike.

MotoGP fans agree that Marco Bezzecchi is Marc Marquez’s biggest threat in 2026

Marquez achieved the ‘impossible’ in 2025, and at the age of 32, has shown that he still has a lot to give to motorcycle racing.

There’s a lot that his brother, who trains closely with him, can learn too. It has already helped him to finish runner-up to him in 2025.

But fans don’t believe that Alex is his closest contender for the future. Marco Bezzecchi doesn’t think Marquez is ‘invincible’ and the fans might agree.

Who is the biggest threat to Marc Marquez in 2026?

In a poll run by MotoGPNews, 46% have backed Bezzecchi to be his closest contender on track in 2026, not his teammate or brother.

The Aprilia rider won multiple races this season and showed that he can be a number-one rider. It was a big statement for someone in his first campaign at a factory outfit.

Why Marc Marquez came to the defence of Marco Bezzecchi in 2025

Although they once didn’t like each other very much, Bezzecchi now maintains a much better relationship with Marquez.

So much so that the Spaniard came to his defence after being taken out by him at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

Marquez insisted that he didn’t deserve any abuse because it was the sort of mistake that he could’ve made, as well.

They have a lot more respect for each other, both on and off the track now, making for a tantalising battle in 2026, if Aprilia can continue to develop the RS-GP well.
