Honda were highly active on the MotoGP rider market in 2025, expressing their intentions to sign a top rider. That mentality remains for 2027.
The Japanese giants were heavily linked with several riders in 2025, including Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta. The Spaniards tried to break their respective contracts at Aprilia and KTM, but the deals were blocked.
Subsequently, Honda had to settle for what they had. Luca Marini signed a new contract for 2026 and partners with Joan Mir, while Johann Zarco, who was eyeing a factory seat, will stay at LCR on a two-year deal alongside Moto2 champion Diogo Moreira.

But plans are already in motion for 2027 and the new MotoGP regulations. Honda are making strides forward towards building a competitive package, and they are plotting a huge move in the MotoGP rider market.
Honda already have plans for a new rider line-up in 2027, with Moreira being linked with a factory seat after signing a three-year contract. Martin remains in the mix, as well as several other riders, including a certain Marc Marquez.

Honda have ‘already spoken’ to Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta amid 2027 links
Several riders are out of contract in 2026, including the Ant of Cervera, who won his seventh MotoGP title with Ducati in 2025.
Initially, Marquez indicated that he would stay at Ducati for the new regulations, but he is now approaching 2027 with caution. No one knows who will have the fastest package, which could make the Spaniard available on the market.
Carlo Pernat says Honda would pay a ‘small country’s budget to bring Marquez back to the team. It would mark a sensational reunion, given their incredible partnership and success between 2013 and 2023.
Which bike should Marc Marquez ride in 2027?
HRC boss Alberto Puig says it would be a ‘dream’ to re-sign Marquez, and the wheels may already be in motion. Speaking via GPOne, Pernat has heard that Honda personnel have begun discussions with the Ducati rider and Acosta.
“Let me digress for a moment,” he said. “I know for a fact, and I say this with certainty, that people at Honda, whether it be Puig or others, have already spoken with both Pedro Acosta and Marc Marquez.
“They have already spoken. Spoken does not mean asking them if they are available for 2027. But they have already done so, I can guarantee it because I have been told by people.”

Honda have cons to weigh up before signing Marc Marquez or Pedro Acosta
The unpredictable nature of the MotoGP rider market makes anything plausible for 2027. Honda could strike a deal for both riders, with Acosta saying he would not mind being Marquez’s teammate one day.
It is also possible that the pair could end up at Ducati. The Borgo Panigale outfit will certainly want to keep Marquez on board, while Acosta is a top target to replace Francesco Bagnaia in 2027.
Honda’s financial power may give them the upper hand, but there are several factors to consider with the Spaniards ahead of 2027.
Marquez will be 34 years old by the time the new regulations come into effect. Honda know that his age needs to be considered, as a drop in performance is possible and could derail their progression.
As for Acosta, it is said that Ducati is his preferred destination, and their Japanese rivals have some concerns about signing the KTM star. Honda have noticed an ‘unforgivable’ flaw in Acosta with his crash-proneness, which could see them move onto other targets.
