After completing his remarkable comeback with a seventh MotoGP title with Ducati, Marc Marquez has touched upon his future plans with the Italian constructor ahead of the expiry of his contract with them at the end of 2026.
Marquez joined the Ducati stable in 2024 with Gresini Racing, terminating an 11-year partnership with the Japanese constructor with whom he won his first six MotoGP world championships.
The Marquez/Honda partnership was one of the most formidable pairings in the history of the premier class, with the Spaniard winning all six of his titles with the team in the first seven years of his MotoGP career.
Things derailed the following season as the Spaniard suffered a multitude of injuries across a period of several years that also saw the performance of Honda’s bike deteriorate. The partnership was dissolved at the end of the 2023 season, when Marquez opted to ride for free at Gresini Racing atop a Ducati.

Marc Marquez reveals that he hasn’t discussed the possibility of an extension to his Ducati contract
When Marquez signed for the factory Ducati team in the midst of his successful debut season within the Gresini set-up, a two-year deal was processed in line with the new MotoGP regulations that will take effect in 2027.
Following his most recent title triumph for the Borgo Panigale-based outfit, it’s clear that neither party will want anything to change for the upcoming season in 2026.
However, speaking in a recent interview with El Partidazo de COPE, Marquez noted that there have been no discussions between himself and Ducati beyond the current terms, saying, “As for the contract, nothing has been discussed yet.
“Honestly, I think it’s still early. Normally, talks begin around January or February. But as I’ve always said, when I’m happy in a place, when I feel good and I have what I want, why change? Changes are made when you’re really going through tough times, like the ones I had in the past.
“So we’ll see. For now, I just want to enjoy this year and then carry on next year with the same approach. That’s what will help both me and Ducati grow. I feel great, and the results show it.”
There’s no doubt that every team on the grid would be vying for the Spaniard’s signature if his talents did become available, but in Marquez’s mind, there would only be one team he would want to swap his red leathers for.

Marc Marquez may want to see out the end of his MotoGP career at Honda
Honda boss Alberto Puig previously spoke on a Marquez reunion at the team, to which he admitted that it would be “complicated” to bring the Spaniard back into the fold at the Japanese team.
However, that verdict was in July, before the 32-year-old secured his seventh premier class title. Marquez has already said that his Honda exit wasn’t about money and that he just wanted to find out if he was still able to compete with the very best following his injury setbacks.
| YEAR | POINTS | RUNNER-UP | GAP |
| 2013 | 328 | Jorge Lorenzo | 4 |
| 2014 | 334 | Valentino Rossi | 67 |
| 2016 | 362 | Valentino Rossi | 49 |
| 2017 | 298 | Andrea Dovizioso | 37 |
| 2018 | 321 | Andrea Dovizioso | 76 |
| 2019 | 420 | Andrea Dovizioso | 151 |
He has found out the answer to that question, given his superiority in the current campaign, and could open up the door to a potential move back to the team that gave him everything in his opening years.
During his emotional goodbye speech to Honda in October 2023, Marquez said, via The Race, “Our relationship is very special, that’s why I hope our paths cross again.” With Honda emerging as a podium contender in recent weeks, their paths may cross sooner rather than later.
