Fabio Quartararo hails the ‘spectacular’ Marc Marquez achievement he has seen since leaving Honda

Fabio Quartararo knows a lot about facing adversity and having to deal with a slower MotoGP bike than he deserves to have.

That’s just one thing his MotoGP career has in common with Marc Marquez, he toiled through many painful years with Honda before leaving them. It has turned out to be an inspired move, helping him to win another title, and there may even be more waiting for him in the future.

Quartararo has a big decision to make as a new set of regulations looms in 2027. Having spent the last three years with a Yamaha bike that hasn’t been able to compete for victories, does he want to waste any more of his prime on a machine which may not bring him any success?

Although it may be financially tempting, Quartararo would be crazy to accept Yamaha’s latest offer to stay with them beyond 2026. Quartararo is already thinking about his next move and is fully aware that the MotoGP rider market can move very quickly. A decision may come sooner than expected.

Although Marquez is waiting until January to be 100% fit after suffering a shoulder injury in a crash a few weeks ago, he should be back to defend his title, just with less preparation than he would like. The post-season test at Valencia is going to be a telling few days for many riders.

It’s where decisions are going to be made for the future, depending on how well certain bikes perform and feel. Quartararo can learn a lot from Marquez’s plunge to leave Honda and take a satellite Ducati seat for 2024. In the end, it has led him to another title.

The Frenchman has admitted that he has plenty of admiration for his rival, too. Speaking to the Spanish edition of Motorsport.com, he revealed how he finds that Marquez’s comeback has been something ‘spectacular’ to watch over the last few years.

“It’s really an example. What he has done has really shown that in two years, he has really gone from going with the flow.

“That he really didn’t do anything because of the bike, not a rider issue, to winning races in 2024, and now dominating the 2025 championship. I think mentally, as a rider, and as a person, what he has done is spectacular.”

Why Fabio Quartararo should move from Yamaha for 2027

At the age of 26, Quartararo is approaching some of his best years in MotoGP, where experience will combine with physical fitness.

Yamaha’s colossal offer to Quartararo shouldn’t be enough to tempt him to stay even longer. The new V4 engine has to make them a contender for victories at the very least.

They have very little time left to prove that they’re headed in an encouraging direction, as their rider has recently admitted.

Quartararo wants to race for Yamaha in 2027, but he will have little say in the matter if they continue to give him a bike that can barely compete for the top 10.
