Fabio Quartararo’s MotoGP performances have gradually become more consistent throughout the 2025 MotoGP season.

Although Yamaha appear to have struggled, the Frenchman has finished inside the top 10 at eight of his last nine races. The all-new V4 engine is on its way, and soon, there’s hope that their lack of power issues will be solved.

Quartararo looks set to finish ninth in the MotoGP standings, which would be his best result since the 2022 season, when he finished runner-up to Francesco Bagnaia. He deserved a victory for his efforts at Silverstone, but was let down by a ride height device failure, meaning his best finish is second this campaign.

Quartararo couldn’t understand his problems at the last race in Indonesia, as he struggled to get to grips with a special Michelin tyre for the race. Quartararo thinks Yamaha are behind in their development compared to some rivals, which isn’t a good sign for the new regulations in 2027.

Fabio Quartararo is having ‘nightmares’ but ‘wants’ to race for Yamaha in 2027

Quartararo has been told to join Ducati countless times over the last few years, but his loyalty to the team that gave him his chance in MotoGP says a lot. He simply doesn’t want to give up on a project that he has invested so much time and effort into.

It’s not expected that Yamaha’s V4 will challenge Ducati any time soon, and that might be hard to swallow for their riders. Particularly their superstar, who’s entering the prime of his career and might be wasting it fighting in the midfield.

Spanish journalist Mela Chercoles has revealed that Quartararo is having sleepless nights over what to do with his next contract, and ‘wants’ to ride for Yamaha in the future, but needs a bike that can compete with the very best.

“Do you know who already has nightmares at night and has trouble falling asleep? Fabio Quartararo. Quartararo doesn’t know what he’s going to do yet,” he said. “Fabio Quartararo is already having trouble sleeping, because he loves the people he is with.

“I don’t know what’s going on. He’s already doubting, he already has doubts about what he’s going to do because he wants to stay at Yamaha, but he needs them to give him a competitive bike at Yamaha. And if not, I’m very clear that this time he’s going to put sporting and economic priorities first.”

Why Fabio Quartararo can be optimistic at the next few MotoGP races

After the upcoming race at Phillip Island, MotoGP returns to the site of pre-season testing in Malaysia, where Yamaha were as quick as they have been all year.

It seems to really suit the strengths of their bike, and it presents one final good opportunity for Quartararo to pinch a victory before the end of the season.

With Marc Marquez sidelined for the event, the Frenchman couldn’t really ask for a better chance to pinch a first win in three and a half years.

Who knows if it’s the last chance he will ever get with his current team, but he’ll know the importance of putting on a good show, considering how morale might have dropped.
