Yamaha are desperate to keep star rider Fabio Quartararo beyond 2026, but they are facing pressure to do so amid their poor performances.
The Frenchman has bemoaned Yamaha’s regression since he won the 2021 MotoGP title on numerous occasions. But despite his despondency, Quartararo continues to produce exceptional performances on the bike.
The 26-year-old has four pole positions in 2025, the second-most after Marc Marquez. However, he has only converted one of those into a podium, finishing second at Jerez.
Quartararo ‘always’ worries when riding the YZR-M1 as it struggles to get the soft tyre up to temperature in the opening laps. He is growing impatient with Yamaha to give him a competitive bike, and the Iwata outfit are doing everything to keep him on board.

Yamaha have already made a ‘colossal offer’ to try and convince Fabio Quartararo to stay
Yamaha will introduce their V4 project in 2026, which they hope will propel them up the order. Quartararo put pressure on Yamaha to bring forward the bike’s development as he is desperate for the team to give him a fast machine.
Early signs are not encouraging, however, as Quartararo had a ‘face like thunder’ after testing the V4 at Misano. Yamaha clearly have a long way to go to convince the Frenchman that they have a competitive project.
But that is not stopping them from throwing everything at keeping the 26-year-old in their MotoGP project. According to Motorsport Espana, Yamaha have already put a ‘colossal offer’ on the table for Quartararo to extend beyond 2026.
Quartararo already earns £10m-a-year at Yamaha, with his deal expiring at the end of 2026. An increase in that salary could be what keeps the Frenchman with the manufacturer, as several rivals are eyeing his signature in 2027.

Fabio Quartararo has already decided his preferred MotoGP team for 2027
Quartararo has sent a clear message to Yamaha about his future beyond 2026. He will decide his fate after the first few races of the season, depending on how competitive the V4 bike is.
Quartararo says ‘we deserve a factory seat’ when he was asked if he would consider moving to a satellite team. Marquez signed for Gresini from Honda in 2024, which allowed him to return to form following injury and win the title with Ducati in 2025.
But it appears that the 2021 MotoGP champion will not take that approach. Honda are ‘incredibly interested’ in Quartararo, while Ducati have been mentioned several times in recent months.
Quartararo would ideally want to race for Yamaha in 2027, but that will depend on whether their project can convince him that they can fight for a championship. If they cannot, he will likely seek new opportunities.
