Alex Marquez reveals the Marc Marquez advice that ‘helped him a lot’ after sealing P2 in MotoGP standings

Alex Marquez secured the runner-up spot in the 2025 MotoGP championship at Sepang, winning the race in his brother’s absence.

Marc Marquez will miss the rest of 2025 through injury, after requiring surgery to fix his right collarbone. The champion suffered a violent crash at Mandalika after being hit by Marco Bezzecchi. forcing him out for the remainder of the season.

In the Ducati rider’s absence, Alex Marquez will now be one of the favourites for victory in the final races. He lived up to the expectations by winning the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The Gresini rider dominated the race after overtaking Francesco Bagnaia on the opening lap. He went unchallenged as he claimed his third win of the season, having secured P2 in the standings in the Sprint race the day before.

Marc Marquez instantly reacted to Alex Marquez securing P2 as he watched the race from home. He couldn’t ask’ for anything more as the brothers sealed 1-2 in the championship in 2025.

Alex Marquez has never finished higher than eighth until 2025. His consistency has seen him outclass factory Ducati riders, something that was not expected before the season.

Speaking to Motosan, the Spaniard revealed that Marc Marquez told him that he is doing something that ‘isn’t normal’ for him. He told him not to worry about finishing second in the standings and that he should take it as a ‘learning experience’.

“Look, it was in Japan, I think, and he said to me: everyone is putting pressure on you, what you’re doing isn’t normal in your position and where you are,” said Alex Marquez.

“So try to enjoy it and if you finish third, if you finish fourth in the world championship, don’t see it as a failure, but rather the opposite, take it as a learning experience. That’s where he helped me a lot.

“And he told me, he said: I finished third. So now people kind of put the obligation on me to have to improve on myself. So, yes, I’ve improved on Marc, I’ve improved on Enea, super good riders like Enea, a super champion like Marc, but also, to be fair, they are very different situations.

“So it’s something that, as I said, makes me very happy, makes me very pleased, and it’s been three years of work within the Gresini team, and to finish it off in some way with this second place is something very important.”

What Alex Marquez has said about Marc Marquez’s injury

Alex Marquez will likely take on a more active role in development and testing for the final months of 2025. Ducati will be without Marc Marquez until the Sepang test in 2026.

Alex said Marc found it ‘hard’ watching the Australian GP from home, given his desire to race. He faces a lengthy recovery period before he returns for his title defence next season.

Marc Marquez is in a ‘positive and calm’ mood as he begins his recovery process. He will be keen not to rush back and aggravate the injury further.

With the Marquez brothers 1-2 in 2025, they will certainly want to repeat that feat in 2026. Alex Marquez will have the factory Ducati spec next season, giving him a possible chance of fighting for the title.
