Alex Marquez shares what Marc Marquez told him was ‘hard’ about not racing in Australia after injury

Gresini ace Alex Marquez has opened up on his conversations with Marc Marquez after the Ducati rider missed the 2025 MotoGP Australian Grand Prix with a shoulder injury.

The Borgo Panigale outfit will also be without Marc Marquez once again this weekend at the Malaysian Grand Prix while he recovers following his recent surgery. Marquez initially hoped to avoid an operation, but ultimately required surgery on the fracture and ligament damage.

Marquez suffered his injury after Marco Bezzecchi caused a crash at Mandalika as the Aprilia rider misjudged their pace on the first lap of the Indonesian Grand Prix on October 5. Ducati are now waiting to learn when Marquez will return from his injury with three rounds to play.

Team manager Davide Tardozzi admitted at the Australian GP last weekend that Ducati hope to see Marquez return from injury in Valencia for the season finale. The Bologna Bullets and the Spaniard hope he can return at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo to ride in the post-season test.

Alex Marquez of Gresini has not sought to speak with Marc about his brother’s injury much. But the siblings kept in touch across the Australian GP weekend, as Marc looked to give Alex advice having watched every session from Phillip Island last weekend back at home in Spain.

Alex stated before the Australian GP that Marc Marquez is not in a rush to return from injury after already winning the 2025 riders’ title. But the 32-year-old wanted to be at Phillip Island instead of being at home, where it was hard for him to get up “so early” to watch the action.

Alex Marquez told AS: “The truth is, I don’t ask him much about how he’s doing. I just let him do his thing. He’s fine [and] he’s cheerful to a certain extent.

“He’s giving me a lot of hassle with things he doesn’t see. In Australia, he told me, ‘It’s hard getting up so early’, because he didn’t miss a single practice session. He wanted to be there.

“He’s calm, which is the most important thing. I already said it in Australia, he’s got everything done, so he’s in no rush.”

Alex Marquez expects Marc Marquez will only return from injury when he is ‘100% ready’

Alex Marquez also adds that Marc Marquez is telling himself not to rush back from injury, so the 29-year-old does not have to advise his elder brother to focus on his recovery. Alex also believes Marc will only return from his shoulder injury once he feels “100% ready” to return.

“No, he tells himself that,” Alex added. “He has, above all, the experience of the past, and he knows not to rush. And I think he’ll come back when he feels 100% ready.”

Marc aims to return from his shoulder injury at the Valencia Grand Prix on November 14-16 as Ducati will test their 2026 bike during the post-season test on the Monday after the race. He will otherwise have to wait until next February’s Sepang Test in Malaysia to ride the bike.

Ducati do not necessarily need Marc to rush back from injury for the Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao on November 7-9 if he is not 100% ready, as he has already won the riders’ title. The Borgo Panigale natives have also already won the teams’ title and the constructors’ title.
