Marc Marquez will take no further part in MotoGP in 2025 as Ducati have officially ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The Ant of Cervera wrapped up his seventh MotoGP title at Motegi, having won 25 races, including Sprints, across the season. But a week later, Marquez was wiped out by Marco Bezzecchi at Mandalika, leaving him with fractured ligaments in his right collarbone.

Ducati confirmed that the Spaniard would miss the race at Phillip Island and Sepang, with the Borgo Panigale outfit targeting a return in Valencia and for the post-season test.

However, Marquez required unexpected surgery to fix his collarbone and allow for a better recovery. It has now been confirmed that the 32-year-old will not ride a MotoGP bike again in 2025.

MotoGP fans tell Marc Marquez it is for the best that he is ruled out injured for the rest of 2025

Marquez will not take part in the final two races at Portimao and Valencia, or the post-season test. He is aiming to be back for the Sepang test in February.

MotoGP fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to comment on the news. They believe it is the best outcome, as the 2025 champion can properly rest and prepare for his title defence in 2026.

“Your health is the most important. Get well soon Marc,” said one fan. Another added: “Great decision! Bravo. I’m sorry because he’ll not be there but it’s for the best.”

One user wrote: “It’s fine, better than making it worse if we force ourselves to join the race.” Another fan agreed as they said: “That’s the best decision for him. Come back stronger champ our best wishes are always with u.”

“I miss him desperately but I am so pleased to hear this news. Come back fully recovered – doesn’t matter how long it takes we will be waiting,” said another Marquez fan.

Finally, one fan wrote: “Rushing a comeback for 2 pointless races and a day of testing makes no sense especially for a talented rider like Marc. Going for the 10th title in 2026 is the ultimate goal. Gotta be at 100% for that.”

Marc Marquez can ride a MotoGP bike sooner than expected in 2026

Marquez admitted via social media that he will be in for a ‘tough’ winter. However, he is fully committed to his recovery so that he can return to the ‘maximum level’ in 2026.

It will be important for the Spaniard to take his time and ensure that he is 100% fit when he gets back onto a MotoGP bike. Michael Laverty warned that Marquez’s injury can be ‘career-ending’ due to how complicated ligament damage is.

Carlo Pernat is ‘scared’ by Marquez’s injury due to his surgery when it was previously thought that it was not needed. The 32-year-old will be aware of the risks, especially after his tough recovery process following his injury in 2020.

When he is fully recovered, Marquez can do additional tests ahead of the 2026 season. This is thanks to Jorge Martin, who got a rule changed to allow injured riders to have more private testing after his injury-ravaged season with Aprilia this year.
