Marc Marquez now knows the extent of his injuries after suffering a mega crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
The seven-time MotoGP champion will miss at least the next two races in Australia and Malaysia while he recovers from a collarbone fracture, as well as some ligamentous damage. With Marquez around, the fight for victory is going to be wide open.
Ducati are now down their superstar rider, at a time when Francesco Bagnaia is struggling massively, too. Fortunately, the titles are all wrapped up, otherwise, the Indonesian Grand Prix could have ended up being a disaster for them in the context of 2025.
Marquez cannot repeat his ‘biggest mistake’ and risk returning to the track too soon. Complicating his injuries or putting himself at further risk could create more damage than is worth dealing with. Dani Pedrosa cast doubt on Marquez, but he has proven a lot of people wrong in his time.

Marc Marquez’s ‘goal’ is to return to MotoGP before the end of 2025
Marquez’s crash could have been ‘career-ending’, but the doctor’s assessment seems somewhat positive for the nature of the incident. No further damage has been done to any part of his body that has been impacted before. This is an entirely new problem.
Alex Marquez had ‘strong words’ for the gravel trap and feels as if something must be done about the aggressive nature of the run-off area at Mandalika, which did little to save his brother from being seriously hurt.
After being told that he has avoided the need for surgery, the Spaniard can now rest up and try to enjoy watching the next two Grands Prix, where it now looks like anyone could win. According to Diario AS, his new ‘goal’ is to make it back before the end of the season.
“Fortunately, the injury is not serious, but it is important to respect the recovery deadlines,” he said. “My goal is to return before the end of the season, but without getting ahead of what the doctors recommend.
“We have met the objective both individually and at the team level, and now the priority is to recover well and return to 100%.”

When was the last time Marc Marquez missed a MotoGP race with injury?
It has been a long while since Marquez last had to sit on the sidelines of a race, and his injury is the first proper problem he has had to deal with since riding a Ducati bike.
In fact, the last time he missed a race as a result of an injury was back in 2023 at the Dutch TT, the second of two events he couldn’t attend due to a complicated rib fracture.
In the five weekends after his return, he failed to finish any higher than seventh. This time, it’s unlikely to be quite the same if he does come back, considering how strong the GP25 is with him on it.
Marco Bezzecchi’s crash with Marquez was ‘strange’, but once he had committed to turn seven at Mandalika with so much speed, there was little he could do to avoid his rival. It’s something that the Italian rider will learn from, and hopefully use to make himself better.
