Marc Marquez could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering yet another devastating MotoGP injury.
The Spaniard was taken out by Marco Bezzecchi on lap one of the Indonesian Grand Prix, as both rolled through the gravel at high speed. The immediate effect of the impact was visible on both as they walked away from the scene of the accident, incredibly gingerly.
Marquez fears he has damaged the ligaments around his collarbone, as well as a fracture. He now heads back to Madrid for a further assessment, before finding out whether he’ll need surgery to be fit to race again. There’s a strong chance that he doesn’t get to compete again in 2025.

MotoGP fans feel Bezzecchi should be penalised for his part in the matter, as he panicked and left himself with nowhere to go before taking out his competitor.

Bezzecchi’s problem was that he had so much overspeed compared to Marquez before crashing. He left himself with nowhere to go and straightened his bike out in an attempt to avoid the seven-time champion. Unfortunately, it was already too late.
The Italian rider also took a heavy tumble, which could leave him at risk of missing the next race in Philip Island with a concussion. The fight for victory in Australia could be monumental, and be between multiple riders.
According to DAZN, Marquez accepted his apology straight after the incident and admitted that their accident was simply part of racing. He knows that there was no malicious intent involved and that he tried his best to avoid a collision.
“These things happen in racing,” he said. “I always say that one day it happens to you, and another day it happens to someone else. Bezzecchi was going very fast this weekend, and he hit my rear wheel.
“These things happen in racing. He came to apologise, and that was it. Now, we’ll go to Madrid and we’ll take the recovery time the doctors say we need.”

Will Marc Marquez return for Ducati before the end of the 2025 MotoGP season?
With a regular fracture and no damaged ligaments, there was a chance that Marquez could return for Ducati before the end of the season.
However, he knows his body better than anyone else, having been through so many injuries, particularly in the shoulder region.
It’s why his fear that ligaments have been damaged is particularly worrying. With that comes a strong chance of surgery, which would extend his recovery time beyond the end of the campaign.
It takes several weeks to come back from such an injury, and with nothing to gain by rushing a comeback, it means that the Ducati rider’s season is likely done.
When the true extent of his injuries is revealed, a clearer picture of his state will be known. His immediate plan will be to make sure he’s fit enough to return for the start of next season.
