Marc Marquez failed to extend his MotoGP win streak to eight consecutive weekends at the Catalan Grand Prix as his brother became the rider to dethrone him.
The Spaniard holds a 182-point lead at the top of the riders’ championship, which should see him earn his seventh title in a few weeks at Motegi. Ducati just wrapped up the constructors’ championship, and now they await the next piece of silverware to enter their cabinet at the end of 2025.
Although Marquez’s comeback from a horrific injury at the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix is a significant part of his story, with stable regulations for 2026, it feels entirely possible that he could continue to dominate MotoGP for another year.
Marquez felt ‘bittersweet’ about his 15-race win streak finally coming to an end at the Catalan Grand Prix. If there was anyone he wouldn’t mind beating him, Alex Marquez being ‘unbeatable’ at one of his best tracks, was probably the way for it to happen.
Marc Marquez issued a ‘terrifying’ comment about 2026 that will scare his MotoGP rivals
After what Davide Tardozzi privately told Marquez, it feels like Ducati knew their run was going to come to an end in advance of Sunday’s race. The GP25 performs best in his hands, and teammate Francesco Bagnaia has had a torrid time on it this year.
That hasn’t stopped Marquez from disagreeing with Luigi Dall’Igna, who refuses to say that he’s the reason why Ducati hasn’t won as many championships as they could have before joining them. David Emmett believes that he made a ‘terrifying’ comment on Friday at the Catalan Grand Prix that will worry his rivals for 2026.
“This was another example. Marc didn’t step up his championship mode, if you know what I mean. This is just how he is, and this is how he is going to be until Moetgi when he wins the championship,” he said on the Paddock Pass Podcast.
“Even after that [Motegi], because the most terrifying thing that Marc said this weekend was it Thursday or Friday, when he said ‘When I’ve won the championship, then 2026 starts.’ So he’s starting work on the 2026 championship the moment he crosses the line with enough points to be crowned champion.”

Statistically, it’s hard to argue that Marquez has ever had a better summer portion of the season than he has in 2025. Europe has been very kind to him, and it’s for that reason that he might be a little sad after the San Marino Grand Prix.
But not for long, before attention turns to the following race in Motegi, where, excluding any miracles, he should claim his seventh title. Marquez is risking Dall’Igna’s big fear by turning up and winning every week for Ducati.
It was already shown with boos from Italian fans at Mugello, who appear to be slightly less in favour of Ducati, now that one of Valentino Rossi’s greatest rivals is competing for them. They’re a very loyal bunch, and it shows in their support.
