Alex Marquez just ended Marc’s 15-race winning streak with an excellent win at the Catalan Grand Prix.

The Spaniards just tightened their grip on the top two positions in the MotoGP standings, but Marc can no longer win the title at the next race in Misano.

Marquez needed to avoid being outscored by three points if he wanted a chance to claim another title at the San Marino Grand Prix, but he just couldn’t match the younger Marquez’s pace at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Gresini have become the first repeat winners of 2025 other than the factory Ducati outfit, and this time it was on pure merit, as Alex claimed his second home win of the year.

Gavin Emmett spotted something ‘unbelievable’ in Marquez’s data before he went on to claim his first pole position of the season.

However, Marquez disagrees with Marc about joining Ducati and is enjoying his current team too much to think about another move for now.

Alex Marquez shares why his Marc Marquez battle was ‘super important’ at the Catalan Grand Prix

Alex thinks Marc will help him finish second once he has secured his seventh title and become the oldest champion in MotoGP history.

It’s the stuff of dreams for the Marquez family, who didn’t come into the season expecting to finish in the top two of the standings.

Marquez received a shocking wage from Gresini in 2024 before graduating to Ducati’s factory ranks. His brother has picked up the slack well since his departure.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the Catalan Grand Prix, Alex discussed why his battle with Marc was ‘super important’ for him.

“Really important for me,” he said. “Honestly speaking, on my personal side. I mean, after the injury, we didn’t have really good results.

“We were always struggling everywhere. To put everything together in one weekend was super important for me.”

Marquez has one ‘significant’ benefit, which has allowed him to unlock a new level of pace in 2025. He’s now a two-time winner, and the GP24 still looks like the bike to be on.

Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Di Giannantonio have struggled on the GP25, with Marc being the only one to extract pace from it.

It’s one of the reasons why Alex should be considered a favourite at the upcoming San Marino Grand Prix, where the GP24 was very fast last year.

“I will try [to win],” said Marquez.” It’s a super different track. It’s a track that everybody is so fast, but I remember that the GP24, they were like another level, the bike was unbelievable.

“I hope to have the opportunity, not to win, but at least to be there, to be on the podium, to be with the speed. I think on the paper there, Marc should make the difference because already with the GP23, he was super, super fast.”
