What Davide Tardozzi privately told Marc Marquez before losing to Alex Marquez at the Catalan Grand Prix

Marc Marquez’s incredible winning streak in MotoGP came to an end on home soil as his brother Alex Marquez claimed victory at the Catalan Grand Prix.

Marquez is not a fan of Montmelo, stating that he would ‘hate’ the track if it were not his home race. Having only won the Catalan Grand Prix in 2014 and 2019, he came into the 2025 event with an open mind as he edges closer to his seventh MotoGP title.

The Ducati rider had to settle for third in qualifying as brother Alex Marquez grabbed a stunning pole position. The Gresini rider looked on course for victory in the Sprint, but he fell off his GP24 with four laps to go and handed the win to Marc Marquez.

Grabbing his 15th win in a row, including Sprints, the 32-year-old looked to claim another double victory in 2025 as he took the lead of Sunday’s race at the first corner. However, his brother fought back to regain the advantage and never looked back.

Davide Tardozzi told Marc Marquez ‘maybe that day is today’ that he loses before Alex Marquez won the Catalan GP

Alex Marquez pulled away from his brother when he overtook him down the main straight in the opening stages. The championship leader tried to fight back, but Marc Marquez admitted he ‘gave up’ after making a mistake at turn seven.

Second was good enough for the Ducati rider as his strategy was to follow his brother before attacking in the final part of the race. But Alex Marquez was faster throughout the race, and Davide Tardozzi had a suspicion that his rider was beaten before the race.

Speaking via GPOne, Marc Marquez revealed that the Ducati rider told him that ‘maybe that day is today’ that he loses a race. He has known for some time that his win streak would eventually come to an end.

“I’ve been saying it I think since Austria that sooner or later the day would come when I would find a rider faster than me on the track. Today it happened and I repeated that to myself several times,” he said.

“Today Davide Tardozzi also repeated it to me, he said: ‘Maybe that day is today’. He asked me to try and I did it. Today with Alex it was impossible, in 2024 it was impossible with Pecco here.

“I said it yesterday that I would try to follow him today and then try in the final part. But today he was faster than me in the final part. For me the most important thing is to finish close to the best on a track that I have always suffered so much.”

Alex Marquez edges closer to securing second in the 2025 championship

Alex Marquez felt his battle with Marc was ‘super important’ for him, especially after the injury to his hand at Assen. The Spaniard has been struggling with the effects of the crash, but Montmelo was a welcome and much-needed return to the front.

The Marquez brothers were ‘unbeatable’ with tyre management at the Catalan GP as they continue to dominate the championship. The pair have now achieved 17 1-2 finishes in 2025 across all races.

Following another disappointing weekend for Francesco Bagnaia, Marquez Jr is now 68 points clear in second. His win at Montmelo has denied his brother the chance to wrap up the title at Misano next weekend.

But with a 182-point lead, the 32-year-old is almost guaranteed to win the championship. Alex Marquez thinks Marc will help him finish second once he confirms his seventh title, in what would be a historic moment for the sport.
