Marc Marquez leaving Ducati for 80-point team is not ‘out of the question’ if he wins the next two championships

Marc Marquez is dominating MotoGP with Ducati, having claimed 17 wins out of a possible 22 races, including Sprints.

He leads the championship by 83 points over brother Alex Marquez at the halfway point of the season. He is a further 61 points clear of Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia as he asserts his authority at the Borgo Panigale team.

It seems like a matter of when, not if, Marquez will win the 2025 MotoGP title. His pace on the GP25 has been frighteningly good, taking victories at circuits that are not typically suited to him, including Qatar, Mugello and Assen.

He claimed his ninth win at Sachsenring last weekend in commanding fashion. Marquez got on Jack Miller’s ‘nerves’ as the Ducati rider finished 25 seconds ahead of the Aussie on Sunday.

Mat Oxley says Marquez is fighting ‘demons’ to not go faster in 2025. His speed at Ducati could make an eighth title in 2026 rather easy, and that accomplishment could see a sensational move from the Spaniard in the MotoGP rider market.

Marc Marquez returning to Honda is not ‘out of the question’ if he wins his 10th title with Ducati

Davide Tardozzi wants Marquez to stay at Ducati ‘until the end’ of his MotoGP career. But if he does claim his 10th motorcycle Grand Prix title by 2026, which is very likely given Ducati’s performance, he could have the chance to make a sensational return to Honda.

Journalist Mela Chercoles says a move to the Japanese giants is ‘not at all out of the question’. It would be a chance to ‘close the circle’ and win one more title with the manufacturer after the success the two parties have had together.

Talking about Tardozzi’s comments via fellow journalist Nico Abad’s YouTube channel, he said: “In other words, Ducati is asking for Marquez for life through Davide Tardozzi.

“And I’m delighted that he’s doing so because there’s a chance that Marc could achieve what he’s achieved this year at Ducati, that he could even achieve [a] tenth [title] at Ducati.

“And why not return to Honda later on and close the circle to achieve another title with a sense of style? That is not at all out of the question.

“Right now, it looks like he could be a Ducati rider for life, but I wouldn’t rule out that in the future, Marc would want to give back to Honda as much as they gave him, they gave it to each other.”

Why Honda say it would be ‘useless’ signing Marc Marquez right now

Marquez won his six MotoGP titles with Honda between 2013 and 2019, displaying utter domination with the Japanese manufacturer. But things came to a dramatic halt when the Spaniard suffered a near-career-ending accident at Jerez in 2020.

He could never recover his form at Honda after that, as further injury setbacks and the team’s regression hampered him. The manufacturer are slowly recovering in 2025, but the factory team have scored only 80 points thus far this season.

The Spaniard decided to leave Honda early in 2024 as he signed for Ducati satellite team Gresini. Marquez told Honda they were wasting his extortionate salary as he could not perform on the bike due to its regression and his injury struggles.

While a return to the Japanese giants would be hugely popular among MotoGP fans, Lucio Cecchinello says Honda signing Marquez would be ‘useless’. That is because he would risk underperformance if he jumped onto the RC213V right now.
