Ducati rider Marc Marquez and Gresini pilot Alex Marquez are enjoying a family affair atop the 2025 MotoGP standings, with the brothers occupying first and second place.

Marc Marquez leads the way after the first seven rounds, with the 32-year-old recording 196 points since he joined Ducati. His early dominance for the Borgo Panigale brand after leaving Gresini before the 2025 MotoGP season sees Marc hold a 24-point lead over Alex Marquez.

Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia also now trails Marc by 72 points and is closer to VR46 star Franco Morbidelli in fourth than he is to either Marquez brother in the riders’ standings. The Italian has also won just one Grand Prix, the same as Alex has and two fewer than Marc.

Marc Marquez took a MotoGP record six Sprint wins in a row to start the season, too, before slipping to second for the first time as Alex Marquez won the Silverstone Sprint. Gresini rider Alex had finished second to Ducati ace Marc in each of the first six Sprint Races this season.

Marc Marquez’s mum wants Alex Marquez to win the 2025 MotoGP riders’ title

This season has been a year of firsts for the Gresini ace, too, after Alex Marquez won his first MotoGP race at Jerez with an emotional home victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. He is now a premier class title contender for the first time, as well, having never finished higher than P8.

Marc Marquez has six MotoGP titles in his tally, but he has not added to his total since 2019 with Honda. Alex won the Moto2 title in 2019 for his latest world championship crown after claiming Moto3 honours in 2014. Marc won the 125cc title in 2010 and Moto2 title in 2012.

So, as the elder Marquez brother is an eight-time world champion, their mum Roser Alenta has told Marc she wants Alex to win the 2025 MotoGP title. She has even joked that the 32-year-old should ‘let’ the 29-year-old win and become the first brothers with MotoGP titles.

Marc Marquez revealed to the BBC: “We are living a dream. We are first and second in the championship together. My mum is supporting more Alex. But always joking because she says to us, ‘You have enough, let him win’.

“Now we are super tight because we know I can help him and he can help me. And we want the best for each other.”

Alex Marquez can dispel claims he’s only in MotoGP because of Marc by winning the title

Marquez’s mum has gone on record with her wish to see Alex win the 2025 MotoGP title, as Alenta thinks it would dispel the ‘lie’ that he is only in the premier class due to being Marc’s sibling. It is an accusation that was widely thrown at Alex when he graduated into the class.

It did not help Alex’s case that the 29-year-old earned his promotion to the premier class in 2020 as Marc’s teammate in the factory Honda garage. But the nine-time MotoGP podium-finisher has proven his place in the premier class was and remains secured on Alex’s merits.

Alex also walked away from the Honda camp before Marc to join Gresini in 2023, which also yielded his first two podiums in MotoGP. Marc then followed him from Honda to Gresini for the 2024 term, marking his first time riding a Ducati after 11 years in the works Honda crew.
