Marc Marquez congratulated his brother Alex Marquez in parc ferme after he won his first ever MotoGP race at the Grand Prix of Spain. The former’s fall paved the way for the latter’s milestone.
Marc and Alex made slight contact at turn one as the factory Ducati rider held off the Gresini ace. He then engaged in a fierce battle with teammate Francesco Bagnaia.
His younger brother came very close to taking him out of the race after out-braking himself, but just about threaded the needle between the two red bikes.
Marquez junior briefly fell behind Maverick Vinales but soon resumed the pursuit of his sibling. On lap three, he had a clear view as the #93 slid off the track at turn eight.
Having been handed third, he caught and passed Bagnaia, then bullied his way past shock race leader Fabio Quartararo at the mid-point of the race. From there, it was a matter of holding his nerve for a first Grand Prix victory at the 94th attempt.

Alex Marquez knew he had to ‘take advantage’ after Marc Marquez’s Spanish Grand Prix crash
In an interview with El Partidazo de COPE, Marquez was asked about his immediate reaction when his brother fell. He felt it was an easy mistake to make.
He pointed out that Marc had been mighty through turn eight, so much so that he may have been too relaxed. It’s the second time he’s blown a potential victory by crashing in 2025.
In Austin, it was Bagnaia who took advantage when the six-time MotoGP champion went down from the lead. Here, Marquez Jr resolved that he’d be the one to capitalise.
“You can fall on any corner,” he said. “I could also have fallen when I was in first place. You go to the limit in every corner. The line between going over the bike and falling is super thin. In a moment, you are on the ground.
“It was one of the corners where he was strongest, so that’s also where you have the most confidence, you relax. A lot of the time, that’s where you make a mistake.
“But that moment when I saw that, I knew he hadn’t saved it. It clicked for me, and I said, ‘Take advantage of it’.
“In Austin, he fell and I couldn’t take advantage of it. And here I said, ‘We have to take advantage’.”
Gresini weren’t impressed with what Alex Marquez did before winning first MotoGP race
Marc recovered from the back of the field to P12, scoring three consolatory points. Alex was able to ascertain that he was okay.
There was one theory in the paddock that Marc would have yielded to Alex if they were battling for the victory. Now one point behind the standings, he can’t afford any charitable gestures.
In a surprising display of confidence, Marquez waved to the crowd on the last lap. Footage from the Gresini garage shows they were far from impressed.
Regaining top spot is a reward for his unmatched consistency in 2025. He’s been on the podium in four out of five Grands Prix, increasing his overall tally to nine.
