Massimo Bartolini shares one area where Fabio Quartararo is still better than Jack Miller at Yamaha

Yamaha bolstered their ranks for the 2025 MotoGP season by bringing Pramac as their satellite team from Ducati.

The Tuscany-based team won the riders’ title with Jorge Martin in 2024. This season, they have returned to Yamaha with Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller on board.

The latter joined from KTM after a disappointing two-year stint. Miller is on a ‘prove-it’ contract with Pramac, as he would have likely been off the grid had they not signed him for 2025.

Having a satellite team is hugely beneficial for Yamaha to gather data and help Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins in development. The Japanese manufacturer are certainly getting the best from Miller.

After four rounds in the 2025 MotoGP season, the Aussie scored Yamaha’s best finish in Austin with fifth. F1 driver Jack Doohan applauded Miller for his heroic performance in the tricky conditions.

Miller is loving his consistency at Yamaha as he is finally able to string solid lap times together in a race. Despite his impressive performance, Quartararo is still the highest-ranked rider, with 30 points.

Fabio Quartararo is ‘still better’ at braking than Jack Miller at Yamaha

The 2021 world champion seems to have struck a good relationship with the Pramac rider. MotoGP fans loved Miller’s gesture to Quartararo in Austin as he helped get him going again after slipping off the track in the wet conditions.

Miller savagely described Quartararo as ‘soft’ having got to know and work with him at Yamaha. While the 30-year-old possesses strengths with the throttle, he is lacking in one area compared to the Frenchman.

Speaking via the MotoGP YouTube channel, technical director Massimo Bartolini says Quartararo is still better on the brakes than Miller: “Jack has been great, I’ve known Jack a long time, because I met for the first time in 2014,” he said.

“I think he has a very great ability to manage the bike and to manage, let’s say, difficult conditions and he came here I think very motivated and it helps us a lot to work with him. For sure, he makes some good races, some very good qualifying, so yeah, very good.

“In any case, he’s a factory rider because as you know, we treat the four riders exactly in the same conditions, same material, same development.

“He’s not so far from the others and for sure, his way to manage the throttle and those things help a little bit.

“But so far, for example, in other areas like braking, Fabio is still better. I think we can get a better mix between the two riders if you learn how to use both skills.”

Jack Miller must be signed by the factory Yamaha team for 2026

The Aussie’s performances have been something to marvel at in 2025. However, Miller will not celebrate until Pramac grab a podium – Yamaha have not scored one since 2023 in Malaysia.

With his experience and comfort on the bike, Yamaha would be wise to consider the 30-year-old for a factory seat in 2026. While Quartararo continues to carry the team, Rins is still struggling with 14 points thus far.

Miller is offering Yamaha a ‘data bank’ from his time at KTM and Ducati. They have never ‘had access’ to such information, which they are clearly using to their advantage.

It gives the team even more reason to promote the Aussie for 2026. Miller could also be crucial in Pramac’s pursuit of Toprak Razgatlioglu with his performances this season.
