The four-win MotoGP rider who’s been given a ‘prove it’ contract for the 2025 season

The 2025 MotoGP season has seen multiple moves in the rider market from the previous year.

The most notable move was from defending champion Jorge Martin. After winning the 2024 title with satellite Ducati team Pramac, the Spaniard will join Aprilia alongside fellow Ducati rider Marco Bezzecchi this season.

Martin was snubbed by Marc Marquez for the factory Ducati seat, with the six-time champion partnering Francesco Bagnaia in 2025.

This season will also have three rookies joining the MotoGP grid from Moto2 – champion Ai Ogura (Trackhouse), Somkiat Chantra (Honda LCR) and Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini).

The newcomers will be keen to make an impression in 2025, but there is one experienced rider who is under pressure to keep his seat in the premier class.

Jack Miller given a ‘prove it’ contract by Yamaha for the 2025 season

Pramac have left Ducati as they made the unprecedented decision to become Yamaha’s satellite team for 2025.

With their arrival, according to a report from The Race, Pramac have ‘full factory support’ as all four of Yamaha’s riders are factory-contracted.

Works team riders Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins have deals until the start of 2027. Miguel Oliveira, who has joined Pramac from Aprilia satellite team Trackhouse, also has the same deal.

However, Yamaha’s fourth rider – Jack Miller – is only contracted for 2025. The Aussie joins the Pramac line-up on the back of two underwhelming seasons as a factory KTM rider.

The Race reports that Miller is on a ‘one-year prove it deal’ with Yamaha. They claim he would have ‘faced a likely MotoGP exit’ if the manufacturer and Pramac had not offered him a deal.

Can Jack Miller improve at Yamaha in 2025?

Miller is well-established in MotoGP having made his debut in 2015 with Honda. However, he has had limited success in the premier class.

The Aussie has won four races in his career thus far, enjoying his best spell with Ducati. Joining the works team in 2021 from Pramac, Miller finished fourth and fifth in the standings in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

He returns to Pramac after two years at KTM, where he struggled to make an impact. The 29-year-old achieved one podium in 2023 and finished 14th last season with 87 points.

Only having a one-year factory deal with Yamaha, Miller is under pressure to keep his MotoGP career alive.

Fausto Marcieira says Miller was kept for non-sporting reasons as Dorna needs to have an Australian rider, given the race on Phillip Island.
