Yamaha are looking to make a step forward in MotoGP in 2025. A huge helping hand in that could come from Jack Miller.
The Aussie moved to satellite team Pramac for 2025 from KTM after a disappointing two-year stint. Yamaha acquired the Tuscany-based team from Ducati after they won the riders’ title last year with Jorge Martin.
The Japanese manufacturer are hoping to improve upon an underwhelming 2024 season. Early indications from pre-season seemed to suggest that they had done so.
Fabio Quartararo beat Yamaha’s best time at Sepang by eight tenths during testing, giving confidence to the riders ahead of the new season. Unfortunately, that has not translated to performance as they sit last in the constructors’ championship after two races.
| Pos. | Manufacturer | Points |
| 1 | Ducati | 74 |
| 2 | Honda | 26 |
| 3 | Aprilia | 22 |
| 4 | KTM | 22 |
| 5 | Yamaha | 13 |
Miller and factory rider Alex Rins have registered the manufacturer’s best result of 11th so far in 2025. The former is Yamaha’s highest-ranked rider so far with just eight points.
While the start to the year has not gone as expected, the 30-year-old is already having a huge impact behind the scenes.

Jack Miller is now offering Yamaha a ‘data bank’ from KTM and Ducati that they never ‘had access’ to in the garage
Miller’s performances in recent years have led many to question his future in MotoGP. But the Aussie comes to Pramac and Yamaha with a wealth of experience.
Having spent the previous two years as a factory KTM rider, the Aussie was a factory Ducati rider from 2021 to 2022. Speaking via the Pit Talk podcast, Matt Clayton says Miller can offer a ‘data bank’ to Yamaha in the garage.
This is something they have never ‘had access’ to before and it appears the dynamic around the team is positive. Renita Vermeulen has noticed Miller looks ‘relaxed and happy’ in his new surroundings.
“I must tell you when we were at Thailand, the biggest thing I noticed, I mean apart from the results on the track was Jack off the track and how relaxed and happy he looked and I didn’t see that at Phillip Island last year,” she said.
“He just was casual. He was like: ‘I’m excited, I feel at home with the team’ and that’s what we want because we know when Jack’s happy, he’s fast and he’s consistent.”
Clayton added: “The thing I notice with him is that every time he gets off the bike, there’s a line of people in the garage. Because they want to know: ‘So where’s our bike different to the KTM? How’s it different to the Ducati, what you developed there?’
“He’s got this data bank from other places that Yamaha haven’t had access to and that’s what makes him a coveted asset in MotoGP these days.”

Jack Miller is on a mission to save his MotoGP career with Pramac
Miller’s experience and knowledge will be highly beneficial to Yamaha as they look to progress in the premier class. It could also help keep him on the grid beyond 2025.
The Aussie is the only Yamaha rider not on a two-year deal. Miller is on a ‘prove-it’ contract following his time at KTM as he would have likely been off the grid had Pramac not signed him.
The 30-year-old is not looking to waste his opportunity. Miller thanked Pramac for saving his career – it is up to him now to prove his worth.
Two points finishes in Buriram and Argentina are a good start but he will be aiming to break the top 10 on the YZR-M1. Miller thinks Yamaha are ‘ten times better’ at using software in 2025, which will go a long way in their bid to return to the front in MotoGP.
