Why Alex Marquez doesn’t think he’s ‘ready’ to win the MotoGP title despite overtaking Marc Marquez

Alex Marquez is the leader of the MotoGP world championship for the first time in his career by one singular point over brother Marc.

A remarkable showing of consistency has seen him claim six consecutive second-place finishes to start the season for Gresini.

Despite a strong pre-season, few expected Marquez to race out of the blocks as he has. He is a serious contender for the title.

92 races into life in MotoGP and the Spaniard is still yet to claim his first victory. It could come soon if he can continue to force the factory Ducati riders into mistakes.

New teammate Fermin Aldeguer ‘didn’t expect’ Marquez’s consistency to be so strong this year, and is pleased to see his strong form.

He could improve even further after Marquez ‘ordered’ Ducati to give him one thing Marc has. He wanted a training bike to boost his preparations.

Alex Marquez believes Gresini are ‘lacking’ in MotoGP championship fight

Three races into the season, Alex is leading the championship ahead of Marc after visiting three of his strongest circuits. It’s a very good omen.

Marquez ‘lost his temper’ at one Marc question being asked whether his brother would gift him a victory at any stage.

If he keeps up the pace that he has sustained so far this season, always within a tenth or two of the lead, his time on the top step will come.

The 28-year-old has also shared his thoughts regarding any push for the title, and whether he thinks it is realistic to compete in 2025.

“We’re lucky enough that now,” he said. “But the logic is during the year we’ll be a little bit behind and that’s why are you ready to fight for a world championship?

“I could be ready, but not at the moment. I don’t see myself because I think we’re lacking a bit in that.”

Why Marc Marquez’s crash proves that Alex Marquez is in the MotoGP title fight

Halfway through the Grand Prix of the Americas, everyone believed that Marc was about to extend his winning streak to six races and his championship lead to nearly 30 points.

However, one corner changed everything and was a reminder of just how important it is to limit mistakes at the highest level.

Alex’s newfound consistency could prove to be a major problem for the factory Ducati riders this year. He doesn’t look like he is ever under pressure or ready to make a mistake.

Both Marc and Bagnaia have shown that they can sometimes suffer under pressure and as a consequence, it affects their speed or consistency.

Especially throughout the European leg of the season, it will be important to remain ahead of the Gresini rider and build a gap in case of another big mistake later down the line. Just for piece of mind.
