Alex Marquez’s electric start to the 2025 MotoGP season for Gresini has taken just about everyone by surprise.
Few expected him to be on the heels of brother Marc Marquez, who has taken victory in all four races so far.
The younger Marquez trails the six-time champion just just 16 points in the MotoGP riders’ championship – a small margin at this stage in the season.
Gresini are benefitting from a brilliant Ducati bike which the rest of the field cannot match. It’s why their machines occupied the top five spots during the Argentina Grand Prix.
Marquez may have found a ‘secret weapon’ for the Grand Prix of Americas which annoyed Marc in Termas de Rio Hondo – he was quicker on left-hand turns.
Reporters are aware that Alex’s first win may be close. It’s why Marquez ‘lost his temper’ in Argentina when asked whether his brother would gift him a victory. They’re too competitive for that.

Alex Marquez has ‘ordered’ a new Ducati bike only Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia have
Marquez’s mother would rather see Alex win a MotoGP title in 2025 so that he can prove to the world he had the talent to be on top all along.
He would be in the driver’s seat for the crown this year if Marc wasn’t in such hot form. He did manage to force a small mistake from him in Argentina, showing the first signs of pressure.
The Spanish edition of Motorsport.com now reports that Alex will receive a brand new Ducati bike to practice with soon.
Currently, he still trains on a Yamaha, despite riding on a Ducati since 2023. Now he has decided to upgrade his equipment to a specification only Marc and his teammate Francesco Bagnaia have.
The new Ducati Panigale V2 S should give him an edge in preparation for events across the rest of the season when it arrives. It could make him even faster.

Why Alex Marquez will claim his first MotoGP victory soon
Alex has led the majority of laps during both MotoGP races so far this year. His brother has been content to sit behind him and wait to make a move.
Whether it’s through reliability or a mistake, there’s a good chance that Alex will have a chance to take victory before the middle of the season.
He’s no more than a few tenths per lap slower than the factory Ducati and is far more confident than two-time champion Bagnaia.
Having the extra confidence is going to help him build a strong gap in the championship behind him at an early stage. It could allow him to ride freely at the end of the campaign.
