Alex Marquez ‘lost his temper’ after being asked one Marc Marquez question at the Argentina Grand Prix

Alex Marquez has been a standout rider in the first two races of the 2025 MotoGP season.

The Spaniard grabbed one podium on the GP23 in 2024 and finished eighth in the standings – his best finish in MotoGP. In 2025, Marquez will have the GP24 for the season, which won 16 out of 20 races last season.

The 28-year-old was partnered with older brother Marc Marquez at Gresini last year. After the latter’s promotion to the factory Ducati team, Alex Marquez has removed the ‘shadow’ of his brother as Gresini’s number one rider.

It has been a hugely impressive start to the season for the Marquez brothers, finishing first and second in all four races thus far. Alex has been runner-up to his six-time champion brother in every race, temporarily leading the Thailand and Argentina Grand Prix.

The Gresini rider put pressure on his brother at Termas as Marc made a rare mistake on lap four and lost the lead. The factory Ducati had to push to regain control of the race, which he did in the closing stages.

Alex Marquez is his brother’s closest rival so far and is gunning for his maiden MotoGP win. But speculation surrounding how he will get that caused the Spaniard to lose his temper in Argentina.

Alex Marquez ‘lost his temper’ with question about Marc Marquez gifting him a MotoGP win

Mother Roser Alenta would rather see Alex win as it would disprove a ‘lie’ that he is racing in MotoGP because of Marc Marquez. Rumours have suggested that the latter is trying to ‘gift’ the former his first win.

Journalist Simon Patterson slammed the speculation in Argentina, stating Marc would ‘never’ hand a win to his brother. Speaking on The Race MotoGP Podcast, he shared how Alex Marquez ‘lost his temper’ when questioned about it in Argentina.

“Marc wants to see Alex win a MotoGP race on his own merit which he is capable of doing. He’s proven before in Sprint races that he’s capable of doing it.

“But Marc doesn’t want the world to think that he’s giving it to him and he will never gift it to him for that reason. So all the people who think that he’s going to gift him a race win, b——-! No he’s not!

“I think Marc understands more than anyone else how hard it is to be Marc Marquez’s brother. And Alex kind of showed that a little bit on Sunday afternoon in the press conference when he was asked a question by a local journalist.

“[He] kind of lost his temper a little bit saying: ‘I am my own person. I’m not an extension of him, I don’t do things when he tells me to do them,’ basically.

“That’s it. For that reason, Marc could never gift him a win.”

Is a win possible for Alex Marquez in the 2025 season?

There is no denying Alex Marquez has taken a step forward in 2025. Having the GP24 will be a huge factor as it still proves to be a competitive bike.

At the moment, the Spaniard is proving to be quicker than Francesco Bagnaia on the GP25 – or ‘GP24.9’ as he has called it. Marquez has led laps in Buriram and Termas, showing his machine – and the rider – is capable of winning a race.

Franco Morbidelli says victories are ‘definitely’ possible’ on the GP24 as Ducati look to fine-tune the GP25.

This has encouraged Alex Marquez to challenge at the front with Gresini. The problem for the 28-year-old is that he has to go through his brother to win, who looks almost impossible at this stage.

Marc will be expected to win again in Austin, but given the pressure from his brother in Argentina, a magic result may not be far away for Alex Marquez.
