Marc Marquez’s miraculous comeback this season in the title race has come down more to the mistakes of others.
Marquez’s win at the German Grand Prix allowed him to close the gap between him and championship leader Jorge Martin.
Prior to his comeback, Marc Marquez was 101 points behind then-championship leader Marco Bezzecchi. Since then, he has leapfrogged Bezzecchi and cut the lead to Martin down to just 18 points.

Marquez’s comeback is exposing a huge problem for MotoGP, as riders have been able to stay consistently in the title mix this season.
While this is a narrative many fans have noticed, even Marquez believes his comeback has come down to the mistakes of the other riders.

Marc Marquez believes his title comeback hinges on other riders’ mistakes
Speaking to Motosprint Italia and other outlets after the German Grand Prix, Marc Marquez admitted that his best-laid plans didn’t lead him back into the title race.
While he is proud of the effort he has put in, Marquez admitted that he has found himself back in the title race because he was able to capitalise on other riders making mistakes.
“I’ve always had a plan, but not this time. This time, I didn’t have one, because you can execute a plan when it depends on you, and this time the comeback didn’t depend only on me.
“I simply had to try to win every race, but even the rider in front, finishing second in every race, would still have won the championship.
“When you don’t have a plan in your hands, you can’t execute it. I’m simply trying to give 100% at the right times
“But I’m in this position more because of other people’s mistakes than because of anything extraordinary I did. I did very well, but I didn’t do anything special.”

Jorge Martin admitted he also capitalised on other riders’ mistakes as well
Similarly, when Jorge Martin spoke to Moto.it and other outlets after the race, he expressed a similar sentiment as Marquez about his success this season.
“We’ve had a fantastic first half of the season. I’m happy to be leading, of course, it’s always a great feeling, but right now it’s almost a minor detail. We need to find our speed again, because if I keep doing races like this, I won’t stay ahead for much longer.
“I know the potential is high; at the beginning of the year, I was much more confident, but in the last few races, we struggled, and we need to understand what happened and maybe go back to that bike because I felt much better.
“If they had told me in January that I’d be first, I would have signed immediately. It will be an interesting second half of the season; the challenge is wide open. Maybe I’m leading more because of the mistakes of others than my results, but I’m ahead, and we have to keep going.”
Given Aprilia’s recent collapse, Marquez benefited from Martin not riding for Ducati, as he was able to close the gap between them with some strong performances.
Yamaha must make a tough decision if Marquez beats Martin for the title once the summer break resumes, as the Spaniard could blow a massive lead.
