Senna Agius is one of the Moto2 riders most hotly linked with a MotoGP promotion for the 2027 season.
Given Agius’ recent form in the intermediate class, such talk is inevitable. After failing to score in the opening two rounds, he notched back-to-back wins in the USA and Spain.
He dropped into the upper midfield in France and Barcelona, but a P4 in Italy and a podium in Hungary promoted him to fourth in the standings, 60.5 points behind IntactGP teammate Manuel Gonzalez.
In your opinion, who are the top three riders in Moto2 right now? 👶
Senna Agius now firmly targeting MotoGP after initial hesitation
Agius only needs one more podium to match his 2025 tally and has already scored over 60% of last year’s points haul.
18th in the standings in the rookie and 10th last term, he has now become one of the championship’s frontrunners. He appears to have taken the leap required to race at the highest level.
Speaking to journalist Adam Wheeler last summer, Agius said he needed another year in Moto2.
Who should fill the 2027 satellite seats?
This is what it's looking like, based on the rumours
“To make the jump next year? I would say I’m not quite ready at the moment,” he said. “The more competitive you can be in Moto2 and the better shape you are when you compete there, the better.”
But in an interview with the same journalist recently, via Speedweek, the 22-year-old made clear that he is now fully focused on breaking into the top tier.
“If I had to name my biggest goal, it would be to ride in MotoGP next year,” he said. “I’m happy to talk about it, but it’s also closely tied to what I’m currently doing in Moto2, and if I don’t fully concentrate on that, the results won’t come and my chances will be jeopardised. It’s a very contradictory situation.”
Which MotoGP teams could Senna Agius join next year?
All the factory seats for 2027 are believed to be filled, with announcements likely in the coming weeks. It’s rare for a rookie to join such a team straight away, regardless.
Crucially, some of the satellite options are still in play. Agius could replace Jack Miller, his fellow Australian, as Toprak Razgatlioglu’s Pramac teammate.
Yamaha-backed Izan Guevara is the favourite for that seat, so Agius to Tech3 could be a more likely outcome.
It’s said that Guenther Steiner wants a young rider to go along with a veteran, and Agius could be the perfect complement to either Maverick Vinales or Brad Binder.
As for Agius’ rivals, David Alonso is set to ride for LCR Honda based on recent signals, Daniel Holgado has been heavily linked with Gresini and Gonzalez is hoping his results will finally be recognised.
