Jorge Martin will serve a double long-lap penalty for the Czech Grand Prix after he caused a pile-up at Balaton Park, but fans believe he should be banned.

Starting from P8 on the grid, the Aprilia rider went in aggressively at the first corner. However, Martin locked the front and smashed into the field as they leaned into the turn.

Martin, Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi, Raul Fernandez and Fermin Aldeguer were all taken out of the Hungarian Grand Prix, while Fabio Di Giannantonio carried on after he was also involved. After the race, the Spaniard was hit with a double long-lap penalty for Brno.

Several people, including his own team, were furious with the 2024 champion’s actions. Aprilia boss Massimo Rivola blasted Martin, saying that he made a mistake that a champion should not be making.

Pecco Bagnaia defended Martin, pointing the blame towards the resurfaced tarmac at turn one. However, the Ducati rider seems to be alone with that, as many people have pinned the blame on Martin.

It is a costly error, especially for Aprilia’s championship chances. Scoring no points, Marc Marquez’s 100th career win has put him 72 points behind Marco Bezzecchi.

Aprilia are certain to have conversations with Martin, and fans believe that he should not be at the next race at Brno. They think that he should have to serve a race ban, rather than a double long-lap penalty.

Writing on X (formerly Twitter), one said: “Give Martin a race ban.” Another said: “JM89 not his first time doing this, would give him a race ban. Riders can’t keep going banzai into turn 1 and destroying people’s races.”

“The fair penalty would have been to be banned from the next race…” argued one user. Another agreed: “I love Jorge but that seems a pretty lenient penalty to me!”
