Aprilia boss Massimo Rivola has blasted Jorge Martin after he took himself and four riders out of the opening lap of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Starting from the third row of the grid at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Martinator locked the front into turn one and caused utter carnage.
His Aprilia RS-GP slammed into the field, wiping out his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Raul Fernandez and Fermin Aldeguer. Di Giannantonio continued, but the other four were out on the spot.
Some strong rides out there today, but which rider stood out for you at the Hungarian Grand Prix?
Massimo Rivola: Jorge Martin made ‘a mistake a world champion shouldn’t make’ at Hungarian GP
With the top three in the championship taken out at the first corner, it was a perfect opportunity for their rivals to catch up. Marc Marquez claimed the victory for Ducati at Balaton Park, with Pedro Acosta second and Pecco Bagnaia third.
Aprilia could have had a shot at a podium, but their race was over before it really started. Team boss Rivola was furious afterwards, putting all the blame on Martin.

Speaking to Sky Italia, he expressed his disappointment over the mistake, saying that it is one that a world champion should not make.
“My first thought is always for the riders, I’m sorry. Martin’s mistake should never happen, especially when safety is at stake and you’re so aggressively approaching the first turn.
“It was a strange mistake, not one of enthusiasm. He made a bad braking mistake, but he didn’t brake too late. He applied more power with the bike leaning slightly, in a part of the track where there’s less grip. But it’s a mistake a world champion shouldn’t make.”
Marc Marquez is now 72 points off Marco Bezzecchi after the Hungarian GP 👀 How do you rate his title chances now?
This is not the first time that the 2024 champion has made an error like this. Martin wiped out Bezzecchi at Motegi last year in a very similar fashion.
He will serve a double long-lap penalty at the next race, and will certainly be getting a stern word from Aprilia for his actions at Balaton Park.
