Honda’s rider line-up for 2027 seemed locked in, with David Alonso and Fabio Quartararo at HRC and Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira at LCR. But changes are now on the cards.
The factory team is set for an all-new rider pairing in 2027, with Joan Mir confirming he will be leaving Honda at the Catalan GP. After the Japanese giants failed to bring Tech3 to their line-up, Luca Marini is also set to leave.
Fabio Quartararo is joining Honda next year from Yamaha, while his teammate was initially reported to be Alonso. The Aspar Moto2 rider is set to move to the premier class, but now, he may not be getting a factory seat.
Should Honda be worried about Fabio Quartararo’s mentality in MotoGP?
David Alonso is now ‘pending confirmation’ to race for LCR in 2027, Diogo Moreira to be promoted
The Colombian had interest from multiple teams on the grid, but negotiations proved to be problematic. Alonso wanted ’10 times’ what Ducati had offered, resulting in the Borgo Panigale outfit pulling out of a deal.
This allowed Honda to swoop in and offer the factory seat that he was demanding. However, it now seems that the Japanese giants have had a change of heart.

LCR’s line-up looked to be staying the same for 2027, with Zarco and Moreira keeping their seats. But according to a report from Speedweek, the latter could now be set for a promotion.
Alonso is ‘pending confirmation’ to race for LCR in 2027 alongside Zarco. Naturally, this would mean that Moreira would be joining HRC next to Quartararo in an all-new rider pairing.
Moreira does have a factory contract with Honda, rather than directly with LCR. Signing a three-year deal, it was with the view to move the Brazilian to the factory team in the future, which could happen in 2027.
Some seismic moves have been made in MotoGP for 2027! What has been the most shocking rider transfer?
Given his demands, it would be natural to assume that Alonso will be on a similar contract next year and will be directly signed to Honda.
Although it is now being reported that the Colombian will first race with the satellite team instead of jumping straight to HRC.
