Sete Gibernau believes Marc Marquez saw where his season was going after his crash at the French Grand Prix.
After undergoing surgery earlier this week, Marquez is likely to recover in time for the Italian Grand Prix at the end of the month.
But in the interim, Ducati are likely to struggle without Marquez, given that he manages to get the best performance out of the GP26.
Are Ducati making a mistake not replacing Marc Marquez for the Catalan Grand Prix?
Marquez had been struggling with a lot of pain owing to previous injuries during the season, so this surgery might have been the best course of action.
However, Sete Gibernau believes Marc Marquez knew he needed to get surgery far before he decided to go under the knife, especially as his struggles were on full display during the French Sprint.

Marc Marquez opted for surgery after realising his season would be ‘very different’ without injuries
Speaking on DAZN’s broadcast over the French Grand Prix weekend, former MotoGP rider Sete Gibernau reflected on Marc Marquez’s performance during the sprint race.
He saw Marquez having no control over his right arm, which led to his crash. Furthermore, he believes Marquez’s decision to undergo surgery is over his struggles with injuries this season.
“If you watch him all year, he wasn’t using his arm. You can see it in the Le Mans sprint. He can’t put his arm down. And in the crash, it slips and he doesn’t react…
“Marquez was in delicate circumstances and you see it in his decision to stop for surgery. He’s always able to overcome those problems and knows that without these problems, his situation would be very different.”
It has been speculated that Marquez was dealing with immense pain even prior to his crash, which contributed to his decision to undergo surgery.

Marc Marquez did his best to keep his injuries under wraps
Even though Marquez had pre-planned his surgery prior to his crash at Le Mans, he seemingly didn’t want people to know about the extent of his injuries.
In fact, Marquez even told Ducati to stop discussing his fitness, likely a result of his frustration with the pain he was experiencing because of his injuries.
A recent video from Ducati shows Marquez tearfully admitting to hiding his injuries, showing just how taxing this period has been for the legendary rider.
Hopefully, Marquez can use his time away from the grid, however brief it may be, to recharge himself, both physically and mentally, before returning at the highest level possible.
