After undergoing successful surgery, Marc Marquez is on the road to recovery, and fans may not have to wait very long to see him return.

Marquez underwent surgery yesterday after suffering a scary crash at the French Grand Prix, addressing some long-standing injury issues he was suffering from.

There has been some speculation that Marquez was dealing with a lot of pain even before he crashed at Le Mans and subsequently went under the knife.

Do you think Marc Marquez’s latest injury could see him retire at the end of 2026?

Marquez is set to miss the Catalan Grand Prix this weekend, as he recovers from the surgery and looks to return later in the season.

But the wait to see Marc Marquez back on the grid might not be too long, as one medical expert has weighed in on his recovery.

Medical expert explains how Marc Marquez can have a ‘rapid’ recovery after undergoing surgery

Speaking in a livestream with Nico Abad, Dr. Nacho Vara, a renowned Spanish trauma surgeon, was asked what a realistic timeline would be for Marc Marquez’s return.

Vara claimed that Marquez can recover quite well after surgery and make a return in the space of a week to 10 days, but a return ahead of the Catalan Grand Prix wouldn’t be likely.

“The deadlines are a little relative. From my experience with athletes who are made of different stuff, they want to get back to competing as soon as possible. It’s true that performing a nerve release and removing material should require a significant recovery time.

“But on the other hand, what it does is release the nerve, reducing the friction. Therefore, he could have a rapid recovery… I think in a week, 10 days, he could return to competing, conservatively….

“It all depends on how he feels, not so much his foot, but how his hand feels. Because even if there is no established damage, the nerve has undergone surgery. That can never get irritated.

“And if it gets irritated and starts to have symptoms of pain, tingling, perhaps it has not recovered enough without damage having been done to that nerve, even if it has been released.

“Just the fact that touching it involves very delicate structures. The coming days could see improvement and determine whether he competes or not this weekend…”

Marc Marquez could return by the Italian Grand Prix

According to Vera’s timeline, Marquez would be available to return at the end of the month, in time for the Italian Grand Prix.

Marquez keeping his surgery details from Ducati may have been a smart move, as he would have been aware of this timeline and could have approached the races during this period accordingly.

But even if he does make a return in Italy, there is concern that Marquez won’t be at his best ever again, with the weight of his injuries finally taking a toll on his performance.

And with Marquez being so visibly emotional after his crash, it is possible that even he has accepted this fact and plans to see out the rest of his career as best he can.

Marc Marquez could make a brilliant return to MotoGP at the Italian Grand Prix, but given his recent form, it might be best to temper expectations on his return and how he will perform.
