Marco Bezzecchi wasted what Peter Bom called a ‘super pole’ at Le Mans by not getting the win in the French Grand Prix.
With Jorge Martin winning the French Grand Prix over Bezzecchi, the gap between the two Aprilia riders in the championship standings is now down to just one point.
Bezzecchi led for most of the race, but an incredible move by Martin late in Le Mans allowed the Spaniard to get a much-needed win.
Jorge Martin with a STUNNING move to claim the win at Le Mans! 👏 Is this the overtake of the season?
The win felt like a statement from Martin as he eyes the world championship, looking at his best for the first time since his brutal crash last year.
But as much as Jorge Martin earned the win, Peter Bom believes Marco Bezzecchi did not make the most of his opportunity at Le Mans.

Marco Bezzecchi wasted French Grand Prix ‘super-pole’ in battle against Jorge Martin
Speaking on the Oxley Bom podcast, former MotoGP crew chief Peter Bom suggested that Marco Bezzecchi starting from P3 was the best position for him, but he didn’t capitalise on it.
Bom suggested that Bezzecchi was overly cautious during the race, going on the defensive when he could have taken a risk and earned himself a big win at the French Grand Prix.
“I think that they have to think about where to put the pole position in Le Mans because it’s actually on the wrong side. Normally, pole position is usually on the inside of the next corner…
“But since you have two fast kinks coming right at the start on the right side, being P3 is actually a super pole. It’s actually the best place on earth, which Bezzecchi proved two times.
“What Bezzecchi did yesterday was starting really well initially. So he was leading, but he went as you do in Le Mans.
“You go immediately to the inside and defend the inside line. He over-defended a bit, and Jorge arrived… He wasn’t super brave. He didn’t even go a meter extra wide. He just saw the opportunity arise.”

Marco Bezzecchi’s championship lead is down to just ONE point! Which Aprilia rider will score more points?
Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin title fight is starting to heat up
As mentioned earlier, Martin managed to close the gap to Bezzecchi in the championship standings, with the two riders now separated by just one point.
To avoid the possibility of either rider costing the other and Aprilia points this season, Massimo Rivola has introduced ‘black rules’ for both of them.
Rivola has previously claimed that Aprilia will not choose between Bezzecchi and Martin, allowing both riders to continue competing, with certain rules about fairness and risky moves.
As this battle between the two starts to heat up, Aprilia will be gearing up for a difficult title race between their two top riders.
The hope is that they engage in a fair but entertaining battle with the best rider coming out on top with no intervention from the team.
