Nicolo Bulega has reiterated that moving to MotoGP is his ‘dream’ despite his ongoing dominance in the World Superbikes championship.
Bulega broke a WSBK record over the weekend with a 14th consecutive win and added two more to extend his new benchmark to 16. He is already 82 points ahead of Iker Lecuona in the championship.
With a third of the season gone, the title race already looks a foregone conclusion, and the narrative is shifting towards what’s next for the Italian.
Nicolo Bulega breaks Toprak Razgatlioglu’s record!
Is it ESSENTIAL that he moves to MotoGP next year?
Nicolo Bulega’s racing future is in the balance
Bulega deputised for an injured Marc Marquez at the Ducati factory team in Portugal and Valencia last year and has become a MotoGP test rider alongside his WSBK duties.
After his perfect weekend at Balaton Park, he travelled to Mugello to test an early version of Ducati’s 2027 850cc prototype.
Bulega recently suggested that he would be happy to remain in WSBK for another year but, speaking to outlets including Motosprint in Hungary, he said the prospect of following Toprak Razgatlioglu to MotoGP truly motivates him.
Who is going to win the French Grand Prix?
“I think it’s something more, I’m winning in SBK and for me, the dream is still MotoGP,” he said. “When they gave me the MotoGP to test, it gave me more strength.
“When I rode it in the last two races last year and in the tests, I came back here even more hungry because I experienced something bigger and more beautiful. Wanting to get there is giving me more motivation.
“This month or next month will be important in deciding. At the moment, my future is 50/50 .”
VR46 or bust for Nicolo Bulega’s MotoGP hopes?
Even Razgatlioglu didn’t move straight to the Yamaha factory team, instead joining Pramac, and Bulega would have to start at a satellite squad too. Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta are expected to form the works Ducati line-up in 2027.
The word is that Gresini aren’t keen on Bulega, even though they may be losing both of their riders. Moto2 rider Daniel Holgado could join, while a comeback is on the cards for Enea Bastianini.
That’s why VR46 is the best bet for Bulega. Fermin Aldeguer is believed to have signed with Valentino Rossi’s team already.
Amid talks over an extension, Fabio Di Giannantonio is speaking to multiple teams, and a seat will be open for former VR46 academy member Bulega if he chooses to leave.
Bulega’s manager recently spoke to Aprilia about the vacancy at Trackhouse, but their preference is to remain within the Ducati setup.
