Marco Bezzecchi’s success in MotoGP shows what can happen when a rider is in ‘the right moment with the right manufacturer’, Peter Bom says.
Bezzecchi has recently become only the third rider in the MotoGP era to win five consecutive races after Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi, two of the all-time greats.
During the United States Grand Prix, Bezzecchi also broke Jorge Lorenzo’s record for consecutive laps led. His winning streak started at the end of last season and has continued at the start of 2026, making him a firm contender for the championship.
Who is going to win the Spanish Grand Prix?
And let us know why in the comments!
Marco Bezzecchi has helped Aprilia become a winning machine
Bezzecchi has finished third in the standings four times across his Grand Prix career – once in Moto3, once in Moto2 and twice in MotoGP.
Only 25 riders in the history of the premier class have reached double figures for victories, but Bezzecchi’s next win will see him join that group. He is also in the top 40 all-time for podium finishes (21).
But Bom still doesn’t consider him a ‘super talent’, even if he commends his ability to rise to the occasion. He says Bezzecchi and Aprilia are the perfect match, bringing out the best in one another.
Massimo Rivola thinks Marco Bezzecchi will be ‘scary’ once he stops crashing in Sprint Races – Is that his only flaw?
He said on the Oxley Bom podcast: “Apparently, he gets a lot better when everything’s on the line and everything is about the main race, the main points. When it really has to be done, he’s quite special.
“I never considered him, and I still don’t consider him, a super talent, but he’s a very good example of a guy that grows a lot more than you think he would ever do because he’s in the right moment with the right manufacturer.
“He was involved in that project the entire time. It’s connected to every muscle in his body.”
Mat Oxley says Marco Bezzecchi is the best rider since prime Marc Marquez
Bezzecchi is looking to become the sixth rider on the current MotoGP grid to win a top-level title. He would arguably be the first to defeat Marc Marquez on equal terms.
The Spaniard was injured when Joan Mir, Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia won their championships. In 2024, he was riding a year-old Ducati, an insurmountable disadvantage against Jorge Martin.

“We haven’t seen anybody this strong since Marc Marquez,” said Mat Oxley. “We had Fabio Quartararo win a championship, we had Pecco Bagnaia win two championships, we had Jorge Martin win a championship, but none of them were doing what Marco Bezzecchi’s doing this year.”
For all his Sunday dominance, Bezzecchi is only four points clear of Martin at the top of the standings right now. He has crashed out of two Sprint races, a habit that could cost him dearly if it isn’t addressed.
