Marco Bezzecchi won the 1000th MotoGP Grand Prix back in 2023, so here is everything you need to know about the Italian rider.

Bezzecchi has been racing in the premier class since 2022, having enjoyed success in Moto3 and Moto2, finishing third in the Riders’ Championship in 2018 and 2021 respectively.

His MotoGP debut arrived with VR46 Racing Team, for whom Bezzecchi rode between 2022 and 2024 and scored his first premier-class win at the 2023 Argentine Grand Prix.

He also won the 2023 French Grand Prix as MotoGP celebrated its 1000th race. Bezzecchi would finish third in the 2023 standings behind Jorge Martin and champion Francesco Bagnaia, as well.

But after a more difficult season in 2024, Bezzecchi agreed to leave VR46 and switch from a satellite Ducati bike to the factory Aprilia team alongside the 2024 MotoGP champion Martin.

Marco Bezzecchi graduated to MotoGP in 2022 with VR46 Racing Team

After winning the Italian Moto3 Championship in 2015, Bezzecchi made his debut in the Moto3 World Championship in 2015, making two wildcard appearances on a satellite Mahindra.

He returned for two more wildcard appearances in 2016 – this time with the factory Mahindra team – before landing a full-time seat with CIP in 2017.

It was a slow rookie season for the Italian as Bezzecchi finished in the top 15 just three times before the race in Motegi, where he secured his first podium in the lightweight class with third.

After finishing 23rd in the standings with 20 points, Bezzecchi switched teams and bikes for 2018 as he moved to Redox PrustelGP on a KTM, where he grabbed three wins and nine podiums to finish third in the championship with 214 points.

Bezzecchi stayed on a KTM when he graduated to Moto2 with Red Bull KTM Tech3 in 2019, but he only managed 17 points in his rookie season.

For 2020, the Italian switched to Kalex machinery and moved to Sky Racing Team VR46 – founded by legendary MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi – and enjoyed two brilliant seasons with the team.

Kalex bikes suited his style and Bezzecchi finished fourth that year with two wins and six podiums, and went one better in 2021 as he finished third in the standings with 214 points.

Bezzecchi only finished outside the top five in just four races during the 2021 Moto2 season, which also earned the Italian his move to the premier class as VR46 also joined the MotoGP grid in 2022.

Marco Bezzecchi won the 1000th MotoGP race at the 2023 French Grand Prix

Bezzecchi stayed with VR46 when he made the step up to MotoGP, this time on a satellite Ducati and spent three years with the team.

The Italian registered his first podium in the premier class with second place at Assen in the 2022 Dutch TT – which was Bezzecchi’s only podium finish in his rookie season as he finished 14th in the championship.

But he found a new level in 2023 as Bezzecchi won his first race at the Argentine Grand Prix in tricky weather conditions and even took the lead in the MotoGP championship for the first time.

Three rounds later, Bezzecchi won the 1000th MotoGP race at the 2023 French Grand Prix after qualifying in seventh – his second win of the season.

The Italian grabbed another win in Indonesia on his way to finishing third in the championship with seven podiums and 329 points.

But in 2024, Bezzecchi could not reach the same heights as the year prior as he secured only one podium with third place at Jerez and four top-five finishes, ending the year 12th in the standings.

For the 2025 season, Bezzecchi will move to the factory Aprilia Racing team alongside 2024 champion Martin, who became the first independent team rider to win the MotoGP riders’ title with Pramac Racing in 2023.

But who really is Bezzecchi and what is the Aprilia rider’s life outside of the MotoGP grid truly like? With that in mind, MotoGP News takes a deep dive into everything that you need to know about Bezzecchi…
