Aprilia are the youngest of the five factory teams on the MotoGP grid. They acquired that status as recently as 2022, but their history in the premier class dates back further.
At the start of 2015, they began a partnership with the Gresini team. And by the end of the following year, they were ready to roll out the first bike built solely by their racing division.
Now they compete as an official manufacturer outfit, with Gresini instead tied to Ducati. Their first three seasons have delivered seven wins, eight pole positions and 27 podiums.
But what is the full story behind the Aprilia team in MotoGP? MotoGP News has the lowdown…

Aprilia MotoGP team name
Aprilia are simply known as Aprilia Racing. Unlike their fellow constructors, they don’t currently have a title sponsor.
Honda (likely to be Castrol), Yamaha (Monster Energy), KTM (Red Bull) and Ducati (Lenovo) have all often signed lucrative deals but Aprilia have not deemed it necessary as yet.
Aprilia MotoGP founding year
Aprilia first entered Grand Prix motorcycle racing in 1985, competing in the 250cc class, later known as Moto2. They made their debut at the highest level in 1994.
Valentino Rossi rode Aprilia bikes as he won the 125cc title in 1997 and the 250cc crown in 1999. Thus they played a key role in the ascent of one of the sport’s all-time greats.
They would walk away from MotoGP at the end of 2004 before their return, allied with Gresini, just over a decade later. Aprilia have been on the grid in their current form since 2022.
Aprilia current MotoGP riders
Aprilia have signed world champion Jorge Martin for the 2025 season. Martin agreed to join after he lost out on a Ducati factory seat to six-time premier class champion Marc Marquez.
At the end of June, they announced the signing of Marco Bezzecchi on a multi-year deal. Bezzecchi, a multiple race-winner, joins from VR46 to complete an all-new line-up following Aleix Espargaro’s retirement and Maverick Vinales’ departure.

Aprilia current team manager and leadership hierarchy
Massimo Rivola, who previously worked for Ferrari in Formula 1, is the CEO of Aprilia Racing. Former KTM man Fabiano Sterlacchini is the team’s technical director, having replaced the Honda-bound Roman Albesiano, while Paolo Bonora is the sporting director.
Aprilia are a MotoGP constructor
Aprilia are one of five constructors on the 2025 MotoGP grid, alongside Honda, Yamaha, Ducati and KTM. They will supply bikes to the Trackhouse team, who were new entrants for 2024 and replaced former Aprilia customers RNF.
Which bike does Aprilia run in the 2025 MotoGP season?
Aprilia Racing will field two of their RS-GP25 bikes in the 2025 MotoGP season, marking the latest iteration of the RS-GP which first debuted in 2015. Aprilia will also supply Trackhouse Racing with two factory RS-GP25 bikes. The RS-GP25 features a 1,000cc four-stroke V4.
Aprilia MotoGP riders’ championships
Aprilia haven’t won any riders’ titles in the premier class. Espargaro has recorded their highest finish to date, placing fourth in the 2022 standings with 212 points.

Aprilia MotoGP teams’ championships
Aprilia’s best finish in the teams’ standings is third. Espargaro and Vinales combined for 334 points in 2022, leaving them just three behind KTM.
Aprilia MotoGP constructors’ championships
Aprilia have finished third in the constructors’ for each of the last three seasons as they chase a first title. Their 326-point haul in 2023 is currently their benchmark.
Aprilia factory base
Aprilia were founded in Noale, a town in the city of Venice, back in 1945. They started as a bicycle company before they started to build engines.
That remains the site of their HQ as they approach their 80th birthday. Fellow manufacturers Yamaha (Gerno di Lesmo) and Ducati (Bologna) are also based in Italy.
